What you’ll be doing: 
  • Assign diagnostic codes to inpatients records and electronically abstract demographic and clinical information from patients’ clinical records
  • Assist Clinical Programs in the collection of patient information utilizing documentation standards as they apply
  • Gather and review information from patient records in order to compile data and information for evidence based decision making at the facility
  • Analyze and interpret data, and present information
  • Act as a resource regarding access and disclosure of personal health information
  • Process requests related to access and/or disclosure of health information according to hospital policy and procedure and applicable statutes and legislation
  • Act as a release of information specialist and a patient advocate/certified rights adviser 
What we’re looking for: 
  • Graduate of an approved Health Science, Health Information Management or Health Informatics Program, required  
  • Member in good standing of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)/Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM)
  • Previous hospital experience in current ICD/DSM coding conventions
  • In depth knowledge of CIHI's guidelines/principles, including data submission and report interpretation 
  • Knowledge of hospital database management including data analysis and presentation skills 
  • Ability to review and apply legislative requirements (documentation, privacy, mental health and others) as they may apply 
  • Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, statistical aptitude, attention to detail and data integrity)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Bilingual (English/French)
  • Exemplary organizational & documentation skills
  • Proven excellence in communication, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Proven ability and skill in working independently and as a part of an innovative interdisciplinary team
