Position Overview

The City of Kamloops is recruiting for a Planner I to join our Planning & Development Department, either in development/current or long-range planning This position requires a well-organized, resourceful, and motivated individual with strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Please note this position may or may not be filled based on the outcome of the Planning Technician-1381 posting. 

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications: 

  1. Completion of a university degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline, such as geography, sociology, urban development, sustainable development, etc.
  2. Ability to acquire full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners within five years of employment.
  3. Minimum of one year’s experience as a planner in a municipal or private sector environment, including previous experience in both a technical and analytical planning role.
  4. Valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 5.

For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check.  A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position. The is a CUPE local 900 position. This job posting will be open until filled. The posting may close anytime after June 23, 2024 if a qualified candidate is found.
