**The Role**:
The Planner I also provides advice and land use information to a variety of stakeholders, including: the public, landowners, developers, elected officials, and other government agencies. Exceptional verbal and writing skills are sought for clear communication via letter, report, map, GIS, and public speaking.
- Job Requirements**Education and Experience**:

- Undergraduate Degree in Planning, Geography or related discipline and a minimum of two years of experience in the role as a Planner. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Certification or eligibility for certification with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) or Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
- Class 5 Driver’s License

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Knowledge of philosophies, principles, practices & techniques of planning
- Knowledge of the rezoning process including experience in structuring, directing and evaluating consultant studies and writing reports summarizing complex issues and making sound recommendations
- Knowledge of the principles, methodology and practices of research and data collection
- Knowledge of environmental planning issues, implementation strategies and management practices
- Proven ability to demonstrate sound judgement and risk analysis
- Demonstrated ability to assess social impact of proposed projects and developments
- Demonstrated ability to assess legal impacts of proposed developments in relation to laws/ bylaws
- Demonstrated expertise in using multiple creative public engagement tools and techniques including public presentations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for negotiating, conflict resolution, and presenting planning reports and projects
- Advanced ability to use a variety of computer software applicable to planning, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Tempest, GIS Mapping (ArcGIS), image editing, etc.

This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900. The placement of the Planner I is at Pay Grade 10, which is $2,632.15 to $3,054.92 biweekly.
