As a Parks Events Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating, consulting, and acting as a liaison in the planning, delivery and hosting of external events and programs on Parks land. You will also enable Parks to support events while ensuring that park assets are protected and maintain public access to open spaces. Primary duties include:

Act as the Parks representative on the city-wide Interdepartmental Events Team (IET) to collaborate, advise and consult with other business unit representatives and external interested parties regarding large festivals and events held on Parks land city-wide. Review and approve smaller green space event applications held within Parks Centre division. Consult with interested parties to coordinate the planning and delivery of several internal Parks led programs, and events. Ensure Park Special Event guidelines and bylaws are followed. Collaborate with Event Liaisons, Zone Superintendents, Ecologists and Pathway Lead to establish specific conditions of use for each park. Provide post-event reviews and make recommendations on future years. Establish and maintain both external and internal relationships. Ensure the interpretation and alignment of existing and new special event policies with the goals and objectives of Parks & Open Spaces business unit and interested parties. Qualifications  A completed 2 year diploma in Horticulture, Events Management, or a related field, with at least 3 years of events management and/or horticulture experience. A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits. A current Standard First Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) level C certification prior to the first day of work. Experience using Community Leisure Activity Scheduling System (CLASS) is considered to be an asset. Success in this position requires the ability to demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, political sensitivity, and relationship perceptiveness.
