As part of our talented Finance team, the temporary (18 months) full time, Portfolio Lead, Finance will be responsible for the operational role in the financial management of the United Way Alberta Capital Region (UWACR). This role will have primary day-to-day responsibility for collecting and processing payments from donors, processing adjustments, and issuing tax receipts. This will include responsibility for ensuring adequate documentation of AR procedures and maintaining transparency for incoming funds to relevant stakeholders. In addition to supporting daily operations, this role will support increased effectiveness of our current systems, the transition to a new accounting software and support the identification, review and implementation of accounting processes and best practices. This position reports to the Controller.

The day to day

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute month-end closing procedures. Contribute to special projects aimed at enhancing financial operations. Oversee the processing of invoices and pledges. Ensure accuracy and timeliness in payment collection. Work closely with customers and internal relationship holders to address non-payment cases. Provide exceptional service while resolving payment-related issues. Organize and maintain records of invoices, bills, and deposits. Implement efficient document management practices Prepare regular forecasting reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual summaries. Highlight campaign collection progress for management reporting. Respond promptly to interdepartmental requests related to revenue applications, adjustments, and status updates. Provide accurate and efficient reporting as needed Uphold high-quality standards in collection processes. Ensure accurate and timely application of payments. Analyze existing processes to identify areas for improvement. Propose and implement process enhancements to streamline operations. Leverage financial software and tools (e.g., Revenue and ERP systems, Excel) effectively. Stay informed about industry trends and technological advancements. Handle both transactional and project-based work seamlessly. Adapt to changing priorities based on internal customer needs and Finance department requirements.

About you:

This position allows you to apply your strong organizational, accurate, high attention to detail, analytical, report preparation and account reconciliation skills. You have hands-on experience with financial management and donations software and proven work experience in core functions of the Accounts Receivable.

You have a can-do attitude, are outcomes driven, and approach situations with a customer focus. Thinking creatively, staying organized, and building relationships is how you thrive. You are familiar with advanced formulas in MS Excel is an asset (Pivot tables, LOOKUP functions, macros, etc.). You love operating in a digital environment and are proficient with MS Office (we use Office 365 – MS Teams, SharePoint), and enjoy learning and using new technology.

You have a post-secondary degree in finance or accounting, with a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation being considered an asset, plus a minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
