POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Advisor position will make significant contributions in the following areas

Compile and validate membership data for external consultant to conduct annual actuarial valuations Prepare financial reporting of pension and other post-retirement benefit plans for external financial statements Develop actuarial assumptions and conduct experience studies Document and explain internal control processes as required for SOX compliance Complete various government filings and ensure compliance with pension legislation Support the Pension Services team with administration functions such as complex pension calculations and annual member statements Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders on benefit upgrades and plan design Draft plan amendments and maintain plan documentation Support the Pension Assets team’s asset allocation decisions and investment manager selections Other duties as required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate degree in commerce, finance, actuarial science or other relevant field A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience Excellent analytical, financial modelling and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail Works efficiently with large volumes of data, while thinking critically to resolve ambiguities Working knowledge of pension plan accounting under U.S. GAAP Experience administering pension plans and calculating defined benefit pension amounts Strong organizational, time management and communication skills Ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders Self-motivated individual who can take initiative to drive change and works independently with limited oversight Progress towards or attainment of the Fellow, Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) designation is considered an asset
