Duties:
This faculty position is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and supporting the field experience requirements within the Bachelor of Education program.
Solicit and coordinate field experience placements for undergraduate students. Secure placements for students in all field experience Teacher Education Program courses. Develop and maintain partnerships with area school districts to enhance students' placement opportunities. Serve as the point of contact for local school and community administrators, teachers, faculty, staff, and students for the field-based Teacher Education Program courses and experiences. Maintain regular contact with supervisors of field experiences and trouble-shoot administrative and/or placement issues with students, supervisors and faculty. Familiarizing practice sites and field experience supervisors with VIU program policies and procedures. Match students' requirements, preferences, and availability with actual opportunities in local schools. Monitor student progress and completion of practicum courses. Facilitate, and participate, in the evaluation of student participation and performance in field experience courses. Participate in ongoing analysis of field experiences and procedures. Develop and maintain materials for practicum such as schedules, evaluation forms, and templates. Liaise with other program chairs, faculty, and staff, to support student success in field experience. Participate in various meetings at the program and faculty level. Work with department chair and department faculty to ensure currency and accuracy in program handbooks on an annual basis and assist with revisions and updates.
