YMCA Walmer Road Sprott House provides transitional and supported housing to youth ages 16 to 24. This residential program operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year and requires continuous on-site staffing and support to 25 residents. The Director and team provide assistance to young people toward increasing independence, self-reliance, and self-determination. The program offers individual and case management support, social/recreational opportunities, and opportunities for peer support through group work. 

The Director will demonstrate supervisory, clinical, and administrative experience and ability. The Director effectively integrates LGBTQ2S+ affirming principles into all aspects of practice and program design. The Director possesses nuanced understanding of resiliency, recovery, harm reduction, trauma-informed and other strengths-based frameworks. Demonstrating knowledge of the issues contributing to LGBTQ2S+ youth homelessness, the Director effectively supports growth in staff and program capacity.

In this role, you will:

Supervise individual staff, co-facilitate team and resident meetings. Facilitate goal setting and performance evaluations and work with staff to ensure successful outcomes for the daily operation and programming of YMCA House. Provide direction to staff in key clinical areas to support a culture of professional growth and accountability for quality and consistency in services to Sprott House residents. Model a problem-solving approach to challenges at the transitional housing program. Be able to coach staff in building and maintaining rapport and positive relationships with residents. Assist in completing financial reports, including quarterly, interim, and annual funding reporting to the City of Toronto to ensure financial accountability to funding bodies. Manage shift coverage for a 24/7 facility, do monthly scheduling, and complete payroll in a timely fashion. Assist youth workers and case managers in program delivery, providing direct support to youth at Sprott House residence as necessary. Provide direction and supervision to staff in maintaining documentation according to professional standards. Be able to coach staff in maintaining appropriate case files, logs, and Accident/Incident Reports. Ensure appropriate documentation in case files and logs. Ensure quality audit measures are achieved in accordance with the YMCA and funder standards, complete data entry in the Shelter Management Information System (SMIS), and complete all administrative tasks as assigned. Respond to emergency and crisis situations following appropriate procedures, ensuring the safety and security of all staff and residents at all times. Provide on-call support to staff in emergencies and crisis situations on a rotational basis. Participate in ongoing program evaluation of health and safety practices and quality standards to ensure compliance with the City of Toronto operating agreement and meet and exceed contractual obligations where possible. Capitalize on gap areas and community networking that match Association Strategic Outcomes, through assisting in the development of appropriate proposals for service expansion with external funding mechanisms and appropriate committee membership. Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:

University degree in social work, social services, human services, or other related field preferred, or college diploma in social work, social services, human services, or other related field required, or equivalent experience; Supervisory experience with a minimum of two years' experience; Experience working with marginalized youth, including direct service to LGBTQ2S+ youth, for 3-5 years; Ability to critically analyze personal and systemic issues leading LGBTQ2S+ youth to experience homelessness; Ability to operationalize theoretical frameworks and conduct critical analyses of individual and systemic issues; Understanding of transitional housing models, systems, and the ability to guide staff in supporting residents to find affordable, permanent housing in the City of Toronto; Knowledge of human and housing rights, including any applicable legislation; Strong time management and administrative skills, including experience with staffing, scheduling, and payroll; Confidence and ability in providing direction regarding clinical and crisis challenges in the context of transitional housing for youth; Group facilitation and presentation skills; Flexibility to work weekends and statutory holidays (MUST have open availability on Saturday and Sunday and on statutory holidays); Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with residents, staff, and volunteers; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to communicate and resolve conflict in a constructive and professional manner; Practice using an LGBTQ2S+ affirming framework and other strengths-based frameworks as mentioned above; Knowledge of the issues that lead young people to become homeless, and the ability to work with youth in a respectful, non-judgmental, and consistent manner; Knowledge of the Recovery approach to supporting mental health; Knowledge of and practical experience with harm reduction as a framework for substance use support; Preferred valid First Aid/CPR certification; Skills in Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint; Experience in SMIS is an asset; Criminal Reference Check within the last 6 months is an asset. Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
