This is a temporary replacement position for a bargaining unit employee. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

Located in Owen Sound and reporting to the Manager, Student Experience, the incumbent’s primary role is to guide, advise and coach the Georgian College Students’ Association (GCSA) at the Owen Sound campus. Through an awareness and understanding of student development theory and the various facets of student affairs at the College, the incumbent must support GCSA student leadership development; broad student advocacy; GCSA-related service delivery and budgets (student insurance, Foodlocker, Live Chat, Clubs and Associations, etc.); foster a sense of belonging through the facilitation and delivery of GCSA events, activities and initiatives; and continually ensure that GCSA is positively impacting retention and building a sense of community on campus. GCSA oversees a significant budget and it is the incumbent’s role to ensure that student leaders are informed, trained, advised and provided adequate resources to engage in high-level decision making, advocate effectively for their constituents, acknowledge and evaluate risk and pursue action that is in the best interest of Georgian College students, GCSA, Georgian College and/or College partners. The incumbent is responsible for collaboratively developing, executing, supporting and delivering First Year Experience and transition-related support, as well as the Peer Mentor program on the Owen Sound Campus. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and functioning of the TLC which includes overseeing the hiring, training, scheduling and coaching of staff.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Georgian College Students’ Association:

 •Supporting the election process for the GCSA Executives and directors, and the student board of governors across all campuses
•Assisting, supporting and guiding student leaders, which includes collaboratively developing and facilitating training and professional development
•Ensuring compliance to the rules of protocol (Robert’s Rules) Constitution and By-laws. Review and update GCSA By-laws annually in collaboration with GCSA Executives
•Participating and/or chairing/co-chairing campus-specific GCSA related meetings, SEC meetings/weekend retreats and other GCSA-related committees, meetings and events (i.e. annual leadership awards and conference etc.)
•Leading and coordinating campus-specific GCSA communication (i.e. social media, on campus bulletin boards, GCSA student portal, external pages etc.) to ensure all digital communications content is up to date and reflect GCSA branding guidelines
•Working closely with the advisors on all campuses on joint policy issues and coordination of services and activities and co-payment issues
•Organizing and coordinating the Food Locker, which includes purchasing food, monitoring the Outlook account and distributing food
Social Engagement and Special Event Planning:
•Overseeing all aspects of planning and coordinating social, special event planning and live entertainment programming (on or off campus)
•Collaborating with GCSA to identify and evaluate student programming needs and opportunities
•Collaborating with other college staff to advertise/promote GCSA programs and as required, coordinate with local Media to advertise special events.
•Co-chairing the GCSA SWAG committee, responsible for researching, approving and initiating the purchase of GCSA-related swag items
•Supporting GCSA and athletics to deliver intramurals, multi-campus and extramural programs, as needed

Financial and Administrative:
•Supporting monthly student honorarium reviews for all GCSA Executives
•Assisting with the planning and monitoring of GCSA financial resources, which includes providing feedback and advice to students with regards to GCSA Budgets
•Completing and/or collaborating with other college staff to ensure all campus-specific GCSA related financial transactions, as applicable, are completed appropriately (i.e. cheque requisitions, invoice processing, purchase orders, reconcile petty cash/POS purchases/transactions/deposits, college purchasing card/reconciliation etc.)
•Completing payroll forms and submit payroll information
•Liaising with other college staff, the administration of domestic and international student insurance, which includes but is not limited to: student knowledge and access to the plan, explanation/interpretation of the plan, claim forms/process, opt-in/out procedures, student complaints/concerns
First Year Experience and Peer Mentor Program:
•Sitting on the Orientation Executive Committee and Orientation Advisory Committee
•Collaboratively developing, supporting, implementing and executing new student orientation programming (Head Start, Academic Orientation and Orientation) at the Owen Sound Campus and virtually when applicable
•Collaboratively supporting the Peer Mentor Program at the Owen Sound Campus as it relates to promotion, space needs, on-campus support, etc.
The Last Class (TLC):
• Purchase all necessary supplies, equipment, inventory and support day-to-day operational needs. 
• Coordinate and/or perform required cleaning
• Recruit, train, orient and complete payroll related functions for all TLC staff
• Ensure TLC operates in accordance with College policies and LLBO/Alcohol and Gaming Commission
Other:
•Liaising with community partners to support service delivery on campus (i.e. bus pass, good food box etc.) and as required, participate in community committees, initiatives and events to enhance student and community member relations and connection


Qualifications:

• Completion of a 3-year post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Education/Sociology of Education, Psychology, or Leadership (or a related field) with courses in Student Development, Leadership Theory or Learning Theory
• Three years experience advising students, preferably in a post-secondary education setting
• Successfully developed skills and experiences in the areas of: student and adult learning and development, academic programs and processes, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, student engagement
• Must possess Smart Serve and First Aid
• Demonstrated understanding and ability to maintain confidentiality standards
• Approachable and relatable to all members of a college community
• Computer skills and experience with databases (entering, analyzing and maintaining statistical data), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel Outlook, etc.)
• Proven communication (electronic, written and oral) and conflict resolution skills with the ability to work under pressure and respond effectively in difficult / sensitive situations
• Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with many interruptions and distractions
• Ability to take initiative, work independently, and as part of a team to achieve goals and targets
• Must be able to accommodate occasional work outside of traditional hours (i.e. evenings and weekends) for special events
