POSITION PURPOSE This position is responsible for assisting with the design, development, and testing of Electrical Transit Fleet systems, equipment, and infrastructure while ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. Leads the technical support for onboarding of Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging equipment and associated infrastructure. Provide technical support to the unit and other departments in the organization with technology implementation for analysis, reporting and recommendations, and liaise with contractors, vendors, and clients as necessary.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinates the development, planning and implementation of initiatives for EV charging infrastructure.
• Assists with component selection, design, and procurement to support EV charging station installations.
• Assists with determining scope of work, design parameters, and potential risks.
• Develops and supports EV charging reliability programs to improve equipment reliability and monitors contractor performance and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations in all design and implementation processes.
• Develops, implements, and reviews auditing processes, procedures, programs, and maintenance routines for electric charging equipment. 
• Onboards EV charger installation, validation, and commissioning.
• Oversees repair, maintenance, troubleshooting of electrical charging infrastructure.
• Carries out audit, oversight, and administration duties for contracted services associated with electric bus charging infrastructure.
• Measures charging infrastructure performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Creates and maintains comprehensive project documentation.
• Assists with business cases for the electric charging infrastructure purchase projects. 
• Supports infrastructure, operations, and maintenance facility projects as a subject matter expert throughout design and construction.
• Works closely with management to integrate within the broader infrastructure and planning activities.
• Ensures the infrastructure projects are aligned with the fleet replacement needs.
• Works with utilities to assess power capacity and potential upgrades for the facilities to support battery electric buses and other alternative fuel types.
• Supports fleet with troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing charging equipment and electric bus technology.
• Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate.
• Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
• Participates on committees, work groups and special projects, as assigned.
• Handles information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Successful completion of a University Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. 
• Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (PEng) with Professional Engineers Ontario.

• Experience performing design and review of electrical infrastructure requiring utility upgrades.
• Understanding of transformers, switchgear, protection controls, and the Ontario electrical code.
• Experience in grid electrification specifically, at an engineering, consulting firm, or electric utility.
• Experience with electrified vehicle charging infrastructure, utility connection requirements, electrical protection systems, energy management systems and energy storage.
• Strong understanding of the challenges with increased electrification of transportation systems.
• Proven experience in dealing with technical data to find positive solutions to complex issues and challenges.
• Demonstrated ability in the Region’s leadership/and core competencies.
• Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to solve complex problems.
• Ability to review, interpret and critique technical reports and engineering drawings.
• Advanced skills in MS Office Suite including the use of virtual platforms. Knowledge of CAD software. 
• Ability to work independently and with teams and with ability to manage competing priorities.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act. 
• Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
