Automation and Continuous Improvement Technician

This role is responsible for the design, fabrication, assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement of process/material handling equipment and automation. It is also responsible for coordinating and supporting all of PM-Mississauga continuous improvement activities and the implementation plans, which includes coordinating multiple process improvement activities at the plant level; i.e. lean manufacturing initiatives, six-sigma projects, kaizen projects, through operations and support functional areas, as well as appropriate outside suppliers.


Your responsibilities will be to:

Work as a functional team member to identify, develop, design, fabricate, build, and install new automated material handling systems, gauges, and processes

Troubleshoot, repair, modify, and improve existing automated systems and machinery

Work with and assist Automation Engineering Specialist to successfully launch vendor sourced automated systems and machinery

Formulates and implements improvement plans and organizes project staff according to requirements.

Manages all phases of a continuous improvement project such as identification, requirements, research, design, prototyping, planning, testing and measurement.

Prepares interim and completion reports to document progress and achievement.

Uses lean practices to coordinate and support CI activities at plant level and work with other Stackpole plants as necessary.

Coordinates training and promotes understanding of lean principles and techniques to all employees

Exercises functional authority for reducing waste and variation in identified key business processes.

Accountable to produce measurable improvement results on projects.

Coordinate activities to promote general continuous improvement culture

Work in compliance with Stackpole PM-Mississauga Quality and EHS Policies and Procedures, including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001.

Our requirements :

Post-secondary education in Industrial Engineering, mechanical, electrical, or automation technology, or Ontario industrial trade (Electrical Control (Machine) Builder, , or preferred)

3 to 5 year experience in an industrial environment or a 3rd year apprentice or higher

Must have good organizational skills, be a self-starter, be able to work both independently and on a team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Must be competent in the use of basic hand and power tools.

Must be competent in AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint software. Ability to use AB RSLogix and FactoryTalk, Solidworks, and Microsoft Project is an asset

Ability to fabricate and assemble mechanical devices, machine, weld, paint, and build or repair pneumatic control systems are a must. Control wiring, PLC programming, panel building, plumbing, and Fanuc robot programming are a definite asset.

Must be able to read manufacturing, assembly, and pneumatic drawings. Ability to read electrical and hydraulic drawings is an asset.
