Water Treatment Plant Operator

The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting a Water Treatment Plant Operator to fill a permanent full-time position. Water Treatment Plant Operators areresponsible for the emergency and day to day operation and control of theCity's Level IV Water Treatment Plant and Level IV Distribution System. Key accountabilities are to perform workfunctions that ensure compliance to established policies and procedures,OH&S, and the AEP Approval to Operate. The Water Treatment Plant operatorsprovide for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and treatmentprocesses, and for the reliable production and supply of high-quality water forall residential, commercial, industrial and regional customers.
As our preferred candidate, youwill have:
Grade 12 or equivalent Unrestricted Water Treatment Level 2 AlbertaEnvironment Operator’s Certification or Equivalent Education or training in a one (1) year water/wastewater related technical program is preferred Power Engineering 4th Class will be considered as anasset Must successfully pass all safety certificate coursescurrently required and others to be defined by the Province or by the City To Maintain Certification, they are required toachieve 3.6 CEUs every 3 years. Minimum 4 years in operating processes of municipalinfrastructure in a Level III or IV Provincially Certified Water TreatmentOperation or Equivalent Valid Class 5 Driver’s License Ability to work unsupervised and co-operate withcolleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions and to provideguidance and instructions to junior operators or Waterworks Labourer’s. Well-developed verbal, computer and writtencommunications skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong computer aptitude including demonstratedproficiency with City based computer programs, databases, spreadsheets andword-processing software. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability toaccurately use a wide range of testing equipment. Current knowledge on regulations, procedural updatesand water quality issues. Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised andco-operate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions. Beable to read and understand blueprints, drawings, schematics and maps. Understand and apply applicable Alberta EnvironmentApproval to Operate. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with co-workers, property and business owners/officers, and theirrepresentatives. Must be physically fit in order to climb, open andclose valves, lift, bend and twist in awkward positions, moderate physicalexertion regularly in awkward positions. Ability to work inside and outside in all types ofweather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot anddisagreeable. Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specializedequipment including respirators and air quality monitors. Work may require use of harnesses andhoisting equipment. This position has a wide range of functionalresponsibilities and skill requirements, from operating pumps to dealing withdangerous chemicals and is required to be proficient with a variety of toolsand equipment.*For a detailed job description,please view the attached.

80hours biweekly; 12 hour rotating shifts includingnights and weekends.
