About the role:

As the Sr. Payroll & Benefits Specialist you will be responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll and benefits services. You have strong attention to detail, are very organized and are customer-service focused. What you'll do:

Payroll Administration

  • Manage disbursement of Canadian payroll of 350+ employees, in compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Act as back up for US payroll (for 50+ employees). 
  • Implement appropriate payroll process and control (e.g. checks and balances) to ensure 100% completeness and accuracy of all payroll related activities.
  • Ensure payroll is administered in accordance with accounting and payroll principles, policies and procedures, and legislated requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations, leaves and salary changes.
  • Review payroll and RSP summaries for accuracy and completeness, complete reconciliation; initiate corrective action, as required.
  • Ensure system accuracy and integrity through data entry, regular audits, problem-solving, and proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, Sales, and Operations, to enhance payroll efficiency.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate entry of HR & payroll data into HRIS after each pay run.

Year- End

  • Ensure 100% complete and accurate year-end processing including but not limited to processing T4s and preparing T2200s to staff.
  • Complete and submit all the required year end reporting such as CNESST, EHT, and RL1.

Benefits & RRSP/401K Administration:

  • Lead administration of Group Benefits programs internally.
  • Manage Financeit’s Group RSP program and act as backup for 401K benefits  in the US.
  • Coordinate enrolments, terminations, salary updates – ensure employee records and benefit files are maintained and updated.
  • Manage all leave of absences including Financeit’s parental leave top up program.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed:

  • 4+ years of experience in Canadian payroll management/administration and previous experience with benefits administration.
  • Experience in year-end processing activities (T’4’s, T2200’s, reporting, audits etc.).
  • PCP designation is an asset.
  • US payroll and benefits administration experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency with various systems, preferably Ceridian.
  • Intermediate Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or G Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of provincial and federal legislations and payroll accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of income tax forms, health benefits programs, sick pay, benefit and retirement plans etc.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work and deliver with a high degree of accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Strong people skills- Friendly and welcoming attitude towards all employees and stakeholders.
