We’re looking for a full-time  Learning Strategist  who will serve students within our Upper School, commencing in August . You’ll be responsible for fostering learning for students in Grades 9 through 12, supporting them to become successful learners who take charge of their own learning; and to lead teachers in the development and execution of strategies that support learners from diverse backgrounds, with a range of learning needs.

Being a champion and advocating for students with special needs. Researching, planning and implementing a variety of teaching and learning strategies to support the diverse and individualized learning needs of students. Assessing learning needs and progress of students and providing support in all areas such as self-regulation; organization; time management; self-advocacy, test preparation, and study skills. Providing academic leadership in learning strategies support to faculty in implementing universal design for learning and differentiated instruction and by facilitating classroom accommodations to support individual students. Developing and frequently reviewing Personal Learning Plans for identified students and leading meetings with teachers to develop strategies to support learners with specific learning needs. Facilitating, collaborating and/or developing transition plans for students. Collaborating with the Director of Student Wellbeing and the Directors of Teaching and Learning, to support student programming in areas such as work habits, learning skills, healthy relationships, and social-emotional learning. Demonstrating a passion for student success and fostering healthy relationships with students and faculty to create a supportive learning environment. Maintaining effective communication with students, parents, and faculty. Supervising and/or leading co-curricular activities.

What You’ll Need:

Membership, in good standing, of the Ontario College of Teachers with teaching qualifications at the Intermediate/Senior levels. Three to five years of successful teaching experience at the grade 9-12 levels.  Special Education Specialist Qualifications or equivalent. Experience interpreting psychoeducational assessments and developing and reviewing individual education plans. Experience as a Special Education Resource Teacher or Special Education Department Head. Experience supporting students with a wide range of learning differences and developing programmes of instruction in learning strategies. Experience coaching teachers and designing and delivering professional learning related to special education, in particular the application of universal design for learning and differentiated instruction across the curriculum. A strong understanding of curriculum planning and assessment. A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and demonstrated experience in embedding them in work with students, faculty, and the school community. Strong interpersonal, organization, communication, and time management skills. A commitment to continued professional growth and development. Willingness and enthusiasm to participate in the co-curricular programme and school community. Experience in an independent school setting would be considered an asset.
