Senior Commercial Finance Business Partner

As a key member of the in-country Finance Team, the Commercial Finance Business Partner is tasked with supporting strategic business decision making and the delivery of Asahi Canada’s financial objectives. This role supports the commercial function of the business and is expected to build and sustain trusted relationships with the national key accounts team and the Canadian leadership team.


The role is responsible for developing commercial and revenue management capabilities with the sales function, ultimately aiming to support decision making to maximise value creation along the value chain. The role will manage the budget and forecasting process for key accounts across Canada, and supports the creation and review of forecasts, business cases for new listings and promotions as well as monthly, quarterly and annual reporting. Ensures deliverables are on time, accurate and contain the right level of detail and insights to allow for clear and simple decision making.


The role would suit a finance professional looking to continue to develop their business partnering skills within a fast moving and rapidly growing environment. Being comfortable with working with complexity will be essential as Asahi Canada’s portfolio of brands continues to grow across different provinces and with different routes to market. The ability to influence senior stakeholders will be vital, with an ability to adapt your style to different parts of the business.


Key Responsibilities

1. Commercial Finance

  • First point of contact for all finance related questions for the national key account sales managers and within the key accounts team
  • Supporting stakeholders with financial analysis and decision making as well as through the creation of new tools and processes.
  • Value chain mapping & development for all key accounts
  • Provides commercial team with strong financial support through the full financial planning life cycle e.g. annual Budget process, Quarterly Management Reviews (’QMRs’), monthly variance analysis and other ad-hoc requests as required.
  • Supporting a thorough analysis and evaluation of plans, budgets and forecasts, ensuring the most profitable allocation of resources through providing financial insights and constructive challenge.
  • Review of the demand planning outputs alongside commercial and supply chain, with updates included into the monthly rolling forecast. Expected performance versus Budgets reviewed with the commercial teams with gap closure plans created as needed to manage risks and opportunities.
  • Supporting the creation of and challenging business cases for trade spend and new product listings.
  • Review the financial performance of trade spend and work with the commercial team to constantly improve the effectiveness of spend within the market.


2. Performance Measurement and Reporting

  • Produce monthly profitability reporting by province, brand and SKU.
  • Prepare Month End presentations complete with variance analysis that demonstrate a deep understanding of the drivers of the results and sharing insights with the wider team.
  • Continuously monitor and report on relevant Key Performance Indicators aligned to the strategic goals of the business
  • Preparation of finance budget schedules including P&Ls and profit analysis.
  • Regular review of receivable balances by customer to identify risk and ensure revenue is collected in a timely manner
  • Ad-hoc reporting to meet the needs of the business including the posting of functional accruals, pre-payments or cost re-allocations.


Key Capabilities Required

  • Qualified Accountant, University Degree.
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience, including within Commercial Finance roles (management accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, business partnering)
  • Previous FMCG experience would be an advantage.
  • Ability to influence across multiple organisational levels, especially key business stakeholders.
  • Comfortable within a fast moving, challenging and deadline driven corporate environment
  • Excellent MS-office knowledge especially MS Excel (large data sets, pivot tables, macros etc.) and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of SAP Business One would be an advantage.
  • Experience in working effectively with teams based across different geographies and time zones.
