Staff Justice of the Peace Government of Manitoba – entry level position (CC4 Clerk of Court 4). Regular/full-time. Classification/Grade: CC4 Clerk of Court 4 Employment type: Full time (Regular) Work schedule: Weekdays 2 pm – 10 pm, every third week Friday off, Saturday 9 am – 5 pm. Duties Staff Justices preside in court and perform administrative judicial functions with limited judicial decision-making and discretion. Appointment is under the authority of the Provincial Court Act and is made by Order-in-Council on Cabinet recommendation. Upon appointment, all justices must successfully complete judicial training as determined by the Chief Judge. Powers and duties are mandated by The Justices of the Peace Regulation under the Provincial Court Act and are authorized by the Director of Justice of the Peace Services. Qualifications Essential Experience performing data entry and preparing, administering and processing complex documentation in accordance with legislation or procedures. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, able to handle multiple tasks in high‑pressure situations with strict deadlines. Excellent verbal communication skills – able to communicate complex principles in plain language. Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively within a team environment. Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills and ability to make sound independent decisions. Supervisory and leadership experience. Ability to maintain accuracy and pay attention to detail. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Strong written communication skills. Desired Experience with related court system applications, including CCAIN, TLMS and COMS. Experience interpreting Federal/Provincial legislation, including the Criminal Code. Experience dealing effectively with the public, judiciary, legal profession, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders. Conditions of Employment Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. Satisfactory Enhanced Security Check. Must qualify for appointment as a Staff Justice of the Peace pursuant to statutory requirements, including being 18 years of age or older and a resident of Manitoba. Ability to work overtime when required with little notice.
