IDEAL CANDIDATE

We're looking for someone with experience in utility demand side management programs who has the skills to be a Consultant (or Senior Consultant or Managing Consultant, depending on experience). At Dunsky, Consultants (at all levels) typically have a background in research, technical analysis, and building quantitative tools, but they also bring effective client management, reporting writing and presentation skills.

Required skills & experience:

  • Professional experience designing and/or evaluating utility (electric and/or natural gas) demand side management (DSM) programs
  • A solid understanding of DSM policy and regulatory frameworks, including DSM targets, cost benefit analysis, cost recovery mechanisms, revenue recovery mechanisms, performance incentive mechanisms, reporting & evaluation, and stakeholder advisory committee structures
  • A solid understanding of the industry-leading practices and principles for the benefit-cost analysis (BCA) of distributed energy resources, as set out in the National Standard Practice Manual (NSPM)
  • Experience developing and/or reviewing BCA analysis for screening DSM programs/plans
  • Solid understanding of DSM potential studies, including purpose, methodologies, limitations and applications.
  • Experience with DSM program portfolio planning, within utility DSM frameworks
  • Solid understanding of DSM Evaluation, Measurement & Verification practices
  • General understanding of the North American natural gas and electricity utility sector – including utility business models, market/regulatory structures, key players, policy drivers, etc.
  • Knowledge of measures, programs or policies relating to the decarbonization of buildings, energy, and/or industry
  • Knowledge and experience with the MS Office suite, with a particular emphasis on Excel (organizing data, solving analytical problems, visual presentation of results)
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly in English
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and work on multiple tasks/ projects within established timelines and budgets
  • Ability to work in a team (collaborative nature, kind and considerate) with strong interpersonal skills
  • A strong degree of comfort with conducting, reviewing and interpreting quantitative analysis
  • Ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative findings, and interpret results for clients
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy transition
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias


In addition, please let us know if you possess the following skills or certifications:

  • DSM related industry training and credentials such as: Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Demand Side Manager (CDSM), Certificate of Excellence – DSM Program Management.
  • Experience with Utility DSM program delivery
  • Experience supporting Utility DSM regulatory proceedings, including evidence preparation and responding to interrogatories
  • Professional experience in helping to address issues and complexities associated with the clean energy transition
  • Experience solving analytical problems with coding languages (such as Python or R)
  • Consulting experience (or skills): an ability to understand client needs, ask the right questions, synthesize complex information and develop practical recommendations
  • A strong aptitude for developing and structuring logical arguments and analysis
  • Ability to work in French



RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with more than 50 expert colleagues in the field, you will carry out studies and plans for governments (municipal, provincial and federal), utilities and non-profit organizations with decision-making power and / or influence to move the transition forward in an efficient and responsible manner. You will contribute to a variety of impactful projects for our clients across Canada and the U.S.

  • Clients: advise clients, including communicating key results in clear, written reports and sharp presentations

  • Thought leadership: develop or provide thought leadership in at least one area of the transition, both internally and to external audiences (this can progress over time)
  • Overall: we adapt to roles at Dunsky to reflect your strengths and interests, so responsibilities may vary and can include such things as building analytical models, leading stakeholder engagement, initiating high-impact projects, or any number of other contributions.
