Our client is a well-established civil engineering firm based in Calgary, Alberta, specializing in government contracts, particularly with local authorities. As a private company known for its precision and innovative solutions, they have consistently delivered projects that meet the stringent demands of public sector infrastructure development. They are now seeking a Head of Engineering to lead their talented team of 10 engineers and continue their tradition of engineering excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the engineering team, ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and local authorities to secure contracts and ensure project requirements and regulations are met.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the company’s goals and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects, from conceptual development through to completion.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards in the execution of civil engineering works.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the president and other stakeholders on project progress, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Lead the recruitment, training, and development of engineering staff to ensure the team remains at the forefront of industry advancements.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within the civil engineering sector, preferably with experience in government projects.
  • Strong understanding of the technical and regulatory aspects of civil engineering, especially in relation to public infrastructure.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and inspire a team of engineers.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience dealing with government agencies and local authorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strict attention to detail.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is highly desirable.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
