The Jury Officer participates in the jury selection process and supports selected members of the jury throughout the trial. This position requires dealing with multiple stakeholders, including the Judiciary, Counsel, Sheriffs, other law enforcement agencies, and Court Operation employees. The role provides and maintains a safe and secure setting for all jury members within various Court of King’s Bench locations and other designated venues. Work is performed in an ever‑changing environment, requiring specialised oversight necessary for the Court of King’s Bench. Ongoing training is essential to respond to the various aspects required in a jury trial. A Jury Officer follows specific guidelines for all jury members within court facilities and other venues by providing a presence in courtrooms and in public areas outside of courtrooms, ensuring that policies are adhered to, including escorting juries while sequestered. This position requires a bilingual individual capable of fluent support in French, English, or both languages. The successful candidate will ensure seamless communication and procedural accuracy in either language during proceedings. Flexibility is crucial, as overtime may be required with little or no notice to meet operational demands. The role also involves travel to court locations across Alberta to support jury trials. During deliberations, the jury may require continuous support from the jury officer, which could include overnight stays. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are essential. Note: This position works on a part‑time casual basis and is only required during jury trials, which can vary in length and frequency. This link will assist you with understanding competencies: Qualifications High school diploma and a minimum of two years of related experience. High degree of professionalism and appropriate behaviour. High level of discretion when handling sensitive information and situations. Must be able to travel to various court locations across the province. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required. Proficiency in both French and English (oral and written) is mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills in both languages; those who cannot demonstrate this ability will be automatically disqualified from the competition. Assets Previous experience with legal documents. Previous experience with legal proceedings. Previous experience in law enforcement. Notes Final candidate(s) will be asked to complete a French and English proficiency test. Final candidate(s) will be required to complete security screening. In this role, you may be eligible for travel, meal, and hospitality allowances and reimbursement as outlined in the Government of Alberta Travel, Meal, and Hospitality Policy. Any cost associated with obtaining the required documents and/or security checks, or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Part‑time casual position will be scheduled as needed during jury trials. Wages are paid on an hourly basis.
