SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
A person who is responsible for providing nursing care services according to the bio-psycho-social needs of users or groups under her/his care. She/he evaluates the health condition of users, as well as determines and implements nursing care and treatment plans. She/he provides nursing and medical care and treatment aimed at maintaining and restoring health, as well as preventing disease.
She/he plans, provides and evaluates teaching activities intended for the users, their relatives and groups of people. In addition, she/he participates in research activities aimed at promoting health and preventing disease.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
The nurse for this position works for the Sampling Center under the Community Miyupimaatisiiun (health) Centre (CMC) which offers front-line services and community health for the local population of Chisasibi.
Proceeds to collecting the samples from a patient for laboratory analysis according to a prescription or care plan;
Collaborates with all health professionals such as doctors and all nurses in the department and with partners;
Collaborates in the collection of information relating to the patient's health history in link with the activities of the sampling center;
Participates in the development and improvement of the service;
Guide and assist the licensed practical nurses;
Observes, measures and records users' temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure;
Makes sure users receive treatment prescribed by doctors and other health professionals;
Assists in emergency situations;
Administer routine vaccinations and/or giving injection;
Carries out other tasks usually assigned to a Nurse upon the request of her/his supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Member in good standing of the O.I.I.Q;
College degree in Nursing;
Minimum one (1) year experience as a nurse.
Knowledge and Abilities: *
Excellent interpersonal and interdisciplinary teamwork skills;* Sharp clinical judgment;* Show leadership to manage a work team; * Observation and analysis skills;
Good resistance to stress;* Excellent communication and listening skills;* Take initiative and be autonomous; * Open to other's culture, ability to adapt to change and to a new environment;* Show interest and empathy towards others; * Possess a capacity for analysis and synthesis;* Knowledge of Cree culture and social and health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset.
LANGUAGE: * Fluent in English;* Fluency in Cree or French is an asset.
