Position:  Professional Civil Engineering Department Head (Full-Time)

Role Overview:

The successful Civil Engineer will play an integral role in the success and growth of our business in this region. You will work with municipalities and local governments to deliver successful projects through a motivated and dynamic team of professionals. You will participate in executing projects from proposal stage through planning, design, construction, and commissioning. You would be comfortable mentoring junior staff and overseeing design reviews.

Education and Experience:

·        Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.

·        Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia registered with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.

·        Preferably, a minimum of five (5) years' experience in a design role within a civil engineering consulting environment.

·        Experience and knowledge in the use of AutoCAD Civil3D.

·        Experienced in the design of various land development infrastructure site servicing such as water distribution, sanitary collection, stormwater management, road and grading design.

·        Additional experience in water treatment systems and sewerage systems is an asset.

Scope of Position:  This role involves managing projects and the various staff members (engineers, technologists, and draftspersons) to coordinate land development and municipal projects from planning through to construction. The ability to personally complete AutoCAD Civil3D design as well as review junior staff designs to ensure they meet project requirements and standards is required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

·        Support and lead the continued growth of our engineering practice in the local market.

·        Project management and engineering design for subdivision, land development, municipal site servicing, and stormwater management projects.

·        Preparation of contract documents and contract administration.

·        Develop and maintain client relationships.

·        Support the in-house expertise of our broad engineering team and provide technical leadership and oversight on engineering projects.

·        Exhibit excellent communication and leadership skills.

·        Familiarity with the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) area and associated municipal projects is an asset.

·        Demonstrate progressive project experience in general civil engineering.

·        Working knowledge of MMCD (certification would be considered an asset).

·        Prepare proposals based on estimated work hours and firm's schedule of fees.

·        Lead preliminary and detailed engineering design for assignments.

·        Liaise with private and public-sector clients, government approval agencies, Indigenous communities, utility companies, and key stakeholders.

·        Review activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine progress toward objectives.

·        Assign junior and intermediate personnel to various projects and monitor their progress.

·        Coordinate with the general manager, project managers, and external professionals.

·        Guide and mentor junior and intermediate engineers and designers.

·        Familiarity with the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) and City of Salmon Arm areas and associated municipal projects would be considered an asset.
