Job Summary The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) works in partnership with academic units, faculty members, and graduate students to enhance the practice and scholarship of learning and teaching at Dalhousie University. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director, Education Technology and Digital Innovation will ensure that all who teach and support teaching can deploy existing and emergent technologies to facilitate exceptional, accessible, student-centred learning experiences. They will serve as a strategic advisor for digital transformation in higher education, championing ongoing technological innovation for teaching and learning. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and facilitation of a comprehensive program of professional development opportunities to enhance individual, team and institutional competence with education technology (learning management systems (LMS), enterprise software, discipline-specific tools, Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), etc). Manage faculty-facing support services relating to teaching and learning software, including managing the team delivering both proactive and on-demand support for Dalhousie’s LMS and related software. Lead the creation, adoption and adaptation of institution-wide competence frameworks for users of teaching and learning software users across Dalhousie, differentiated as appropriate for students, teaching assistants, instructors, program/unit leads, and institutional leaders. In specific relation to Gen AI and AGI, create, adapt or adopt an institution-wide competence framework for all who teach and support teaching across the institution. Collaborate across teams to enhance user experience of education technology for instructors and academic leaders, manage associated education, training and change management processes, and leverage data for continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Chair and co-chair a variety of CLT, university and external committees on digital learning and artificial intelligence. Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines. Required Qualifications Masters degree in a relevant field plus a minimum of seven years’ progressive, related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience). Experience in the intersection of technology and higher education teaching and learning as well as experience in post-secondary teaching and/or ITS leadership experience. Demonstrated leadership skills and competency as a strategic advisor, including the ability to build and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships at all levels, and achieve goals using collaborative and consultative processes. Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and group facilitation skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills with the proven ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven, fast-paced, high-volume environment and manage multiple detail-oriented projects. Previous managerial experience. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development within all aspects of the portfolio. Assets PhD in relevant field and/or demonstrable, equivalent command of relevant literature and research practices. Experience working at a strategic level in university teaching and learning. Experience managing unionized staff.
