Senior Advisor – Carbon Capture, Utilization
3 days ago
Senior Advisor – Carbon Capture, Utilization & Sequestration (CCUS) Chemical/Process Engineer The Senior Advisor will serve as an independent, feasibility-level technical reviewer supporting validation and challenge of the project’s process design. The primary objective is to "stress-test" the proposed chemical and process configurations, assessing whether the proposed facility configuration supports efficient hydrogen/ammonia production and seamless integration with the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL). Key Responsibilities Strategic Review & Design Challenge Process Configuration: Conduct a high-level "red-team" review of the overall ammonia synthesis and carbon capture flowsheet to identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks. CCUS Integration: Evaluate the integration of CO2 capture units with downstream dehydration and compression trains. Ensure energy recovery is optimized across the heat-integrated system. ACTL Interface: Validate that the process design (specifically the conditioning phase) is fully compatible with ACTL’s stringent inlet requirements regarding moisture, temperature, and phase behavior. Independent Technical Validation Performance Metrics: Provide an independent, feasibility-level assessment of CO2 capture rates and energy intensity per ton of ammonia produced. Conditioning Assumptions: Audit the assumptions used for CO2 dehydration and compression (e.g., stage efficiencies, intercooling temperatures, and supercritical fluid behavior). Mass & Energy Balances: Review and challenge key fundamental process inputs that drive the project’s economic and environmental models. Simulation & Modeling Governance Aspen HYSYS/Plus Walkthroughs: Participate in structured, step-by-step reviews of the Aspen process models to support independent technical challenge. Convergence & Stability: Ensure the models are robust, use appropriate property packages for high-pressure CO2 and ammonia synthesis, and reflect "real-world" operating envelopes rather than just nameplate conditions. Required Technical Profile Experience: 15+ years in Process Engineering, with a deep focus on Ammonia/Fertilizer production and Carbon Capture (Pre- or Post-combustion). Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus is mandatory, specifically for the purpose of auditing complex models built by others. Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of CO2 physical properties in dense/supercritical phases. Familiarity with Alberta-specific midstream requirements (ACTL) and the provincial regulatory landscape for carbon sequestration. Education: Degree in Chemical Engineering; professional designation (or equivalent) is highly preferred. Demonstrated experience defining and clarifying engineering and system boundaries across multi-party project environments. Engagement Terms Status: This is an advisory role for an experienced professional who can provide high-value insights on a flexible, part-time basis. Immediate Priorities: The initial focus will be on the upcoming design freeze and the validation of carbon intensity (CI) assumptions for project financing. Suitably qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, specifying their US $/hour rate. #CCUS, #CarbonCapture, #CO2, #Sequestration, #BlueAmmonia, #ChemicalEngineering, #ProcessEngineering, #CarbonStorage, #ProcessDesign, #ProcessAudit, #ACTL, #MassEnergyBalance, #MEB, #Aspen HYSYS, #AspenPlus,#Ammonia, #Fertilizer, #P.Eng, #Advisory, #CarbonIntensity, #RemoteWorking, #PartTime, #Contractual #J-18808-Ljbffr
