Research Student (Masters Student Placement)

Term: May - August 2025 (Full-Time Placement)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary role of the research assistant is to provide support to a health services research project within the SE Research Centre priority research field, 'Dying, Death, and Grief'.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a research student with interest in hospice palliative care, integrated palliative care for structurally vulnerable people, and protecting volunteer and healthcare provider capacity to deliver equity focused care. Your primary role will be to support the generation of tailored knowledge mobilization products (e.g., lay summaries, info graphics, presentations) to support the application of recent research findings into practice . This is a great opportunity to build one's capacity in knowledge mobilization in the field of palliative care under the supervision of a nurse scientist, with potential for gaining presentation and leadership experience.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a deliverable-focused workback plan.

  • Work in collaboration with a nurse scientist to execute knowledge mobilization products (e.g., lay summary, presentation deck, infographic, etc.).

  • Organize and share knowledge mobilization products with interested parties within the organization to lay the groundwork to pursue future project grant(s) to continue developing the existing program of applied hospice palliative care research.

  • Participate in writing academic research conference abstracts, publications, and/or a project grant outline.

  • Participate in and document action items from team meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Graduate student or Graduate degree in nursing, social work, gerontology, health sciences, or health promotion.

  • An understanding of and/or experience working in hospice palliative care and/or with people experiencing structurally vulnerability.

Skill Requirements

  • Experience generating knowledge mobilization products including lay and academic writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan deliverables.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to contribute to a team under complex research and organizational conditions, and in an environment of multiple priorities.

  • Diplomacy and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent problem solving, creative thinking and decision-making capacity
