R&D Director

Position Summary:
We are seeking a technically strong R&D Director to oversee our research and development, and QA team of ~20 with an emphasis on:
1) Mentoring and managing a high-performing and accountable team to deliver on product features, enhancements, and minimize defects; (70% of time spent managing; 30% coding/technical troubleshooting)
2) Modernizing products, architecture and infrastructure to reduce technical debt, cloud incidents, security risks, control cost and improve performance, and;
3) Optimizing our internal development, infrastructure and release processes and tools
Job Responsibilities:
Research and Development (R&D): Continuous innovation is a cornerstone of the role. This involves leading R&D efforts, experimenting with new technologies and processes, and fostering a culture of creativity and exploration within the technology team.
Team Leadership and Management: Responsible for leading and managing the technology and operations teams. They foster collaboration, help with time management, and provide guidance, mentorship, and resources to ensure efficient and effective project execution.
Technical Architecture and Infrastructure: Design the organization's technical architecture and infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability. They evaluate and adopt suitable technologies that streamline operations and enhance performance.
Product Development and Delivery: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the development of technology and products aligned with business goals. They oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to launch.
Customer Engagement: Engage with our top customers and technical advisors, as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 10+ years of software development experience supporting a desktop product
- 3+ years of experience managing a team
- Technical knowledge: C+, VB, Microsoft .NET, SQL Server, Azure, Git, REST, SOAP, Windows Desktop Development
- Experience with Azure cloud hosting
- Experience with automation, DevOps, and configuration as code
- Ability and willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)
