Contract Outreach Program Leader (Medicine Hat) Wellspring Alberta is a charitable organization that supports, informs, and empowers those diagnosed with cancer by helping them address fear, isolation, disruption, and practical problems associated with cancer. An affiliate of the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation, Wellspring Alberta provides a comprehensive range of evidence‑informed programs, support, and resources for anyone living with cancer and their caregivers, free of charge and without referral in three centres and online. Our vision is that no one has to face cancer alone. Wellspring Alberta’s work is made possible through generous donations and the efforts of committed volunteers, dedicated staff, and skilled contracted program leaders. The Program Leader team is a group of highly skilled professionals with big hearts. Wellspring Alberta offers over 70 evidence‑informed programs, each unique and requiring a distinct skill set. The Opportunity Wellspring Alberta is dedicated to building stronger cancer support communities across Alberta, with in‑person programming operating in communities outside Calgary and Edmonton. We are seeking one local professional to lead the Cancer Connect Program in Medicine Hat. Reporting to the Program Director, the Outreach Program Leader will lead Cancer Connect, a contract position running for 2 hours twice a month, supported by volunteers. Outreach Strategy Wellspring Alberta is committed to working with communities throughout the province to ensure cancer support programs and services exist closer to home. In alignment with Wellspring Alberta’s strategic outreach plan, there is a significant need to co‑create in‑person, sustainable cancer support communities in regional and remote areas outside Calgary and Edmonton. While online and telephone‑based programming has expanded reach, there remains a need for in‑person programs to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone. Wellspring Alberta follows a community‑participatory approach to ensure new initiatives, such as the Cancer Connect program, are driven by community needs. Responsibilities Abide by the standards of leadership and policies outlined in Wellspring’s Program Leader’s Guide. Create a safe, warm, and welcoming environment. The professional group leader maintains primary responsibility for the leadership and management of the group process. Provide support, direction and feedback to volunteer(s) who will assist and support the program, in collaboration with Program Coordinators. Record attendance and other administrative duties as requested. Refer any needs or concerns that require follow up to Wellspring staff. Engage in the Wellspring culture of philanthropy by taking opportunities within the program setting to recognize the importance of philanthropy for program delivery. Make announcements to program participants, as time permits, based on wording provided by the program team regarding upcoming Wellspring initiatives or events. Communicate in a timely way with the Wellspring program team as required. Required Knowledge and Skills Graduated from a recognized post‑secondary institution. Professional from a relevant discipline (e.g., social work, nursing, psychology, education), a member in good standing with the governing association (e.g., Alberta College of Nurses), and provide call registration. Experience within a health care or allied health care setting, cancer care in particular, is an asset. Minimum of 3 years experience leading groups within a supportive care model.
