Job Opportunity: Assistant Technical Director, Citadel Theatre

The Citadel Theatre, one of Canada’s largest and busiest professional, not-for-profit theatre companies and facilities, has an opening for a full-time permanent Assistant Technical Director. The Assistant Technical Director assists the Technical Director in ensuring high quality production values for all Citadel productions and co-productions. Making appropriate use of our facilities, human, and financial resources to support the production crews. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Create, maintain, and distribute crew schedules for the Staging, Lighting, Sound, and Video Crews. Schedule and supervise production department labour in accordance with approved production and overhead budgets, as assigned by the Technical Director. Liaise with Designers on behalf of the relevant department heads for pre-production preparations. Provide Designers with required venue drawings, inventories, and other production information as directed by the Technical Director. Create technical drawings for the shops as assigned by the Technical Director. Research materials, equipment, and techniques that may be required to execute construction of production elements. Coordinate with the TD team and Department heads to ensure efficient and safe installation of production elements and technology in the performance venues. Estimate production element costs and labour requirements assigned by the Technical Director. Procure materials for the production shops in accordance with approved production and overhead budgets. Ensure all crews working under the ATD’s supervision do so in a safe and respectful manner, abiding by Citadel policies and Health and Safety Regulations. Attend rehearsals and performances to record and distribute work notes to department heads. Support ATD: Rentals and Events and Production Manager as directed by the Technical Director. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Post Secondary Technical Theatre Education is an asset. Experience: 5 years working in professional theatre production departments. Skills:Proficiency with Vectorworks Ability to create, maintain, and interpret CAD files. Proficient with MS365 Office suite and other common office applications. Familiar with all aspects of stagecraft. Proficient in at least one. Excellent written and oral communication skills suitable for corresponding with external clients. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience supervising or working in an IATSE Union environment. Experience working as a carpenter, props builder, or painter Fall Protection Training Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP) / Aerial work platform training. Valid Driver’s License ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to travel for limited periods of time to support co-productions or tours. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by the production schedule. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate construction sites with uneven surfaces.
