Purpose of the Job: The Manager, Microbiology – Environmental Monitoring is responsible for leading and overseeing the environmental monitoring program for classified clean rooms within the Jubilant HollisterStier sterile manufacturing facility. This role ensures regulatory compliance and supports aseptic processing, while driving continuous improvement in contamination control strategies. Responsibilities: Program Leadership & Oversight: Manage the environmental monitoring program for ISO-classified clean rooms (ISO 5, 7, 8); ensure sampling plans, alert/action levels, and trending are scientifically justified and compliant; oversee routine EM activities including viable/non-viable air sampling, surface sampling, personnel monitoring, and water system sampling. Team Management: Lead, train, and develop a team of microbiologists and EM technicians; ensure adherence to SOPs, GMP, and safety protocols. Compliance & Quality: Ensure EM data integrity and timely reporting; lead investigations into EM excursions and contamination events; support regulatory inspections and internal audits. Technical Expertise: Provide microbiological expertise in cleanroom behavior, contamination control, and aseptic technique; collaborate with QA, Validation, and Manufacturing to support cleanroom qualification and aseptic process simulations (media fills). Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in EM strategy, automation, and data analytics; evaluate and implement new technologies (e.g., rapid microbiological methods). Other: Perform any other tasks assigned by Management. Key Interfaces: External: Clients, Suppliers Internal: Quality, Production, Validation, Maintenance, Supply Chain and any other required departments. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field. Minimum 5–7 years of experience in pharmaceutical microbiology, including at least 2 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of GMP, aseptic processing, and cleanroom classifications. Experience with regulatory inspections and audit readiness. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Skills Required: Thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical development process leading to commercial manufacturing and GMP requirements. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, SAP environment, and Electronic Data Acquisition Systems). Bilingual (French and English). Proficiency in English is essential. Strong project management skills.
