THE ROLE AND IMPACT: Cystic Fibrosis Canada (CF Canada) is seeking a strategic, experienced, and collaborative Director, National Events to lead its national events and community fundraising portfolio. As events represent one of CF Canada’s greatest strengths, this leader will play a pivotal role in refining, expanding, and reimagining the organization’s $6M events portfolio to drive revenue growth and deepen engagement across the CF community. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director will lead a national team of fundraising professionals responsible for the strategy, execution, and daily operations of all national and community-based events. They will ensure a systematic, data-driven approach to event planning and evaluation—assessing ROI, streamlining processes, and aligning activities across multiple REPORTS TO: Chief Development Officer DIRECT REPORTS: Senior Manager, National Events (Indirectly: Officer, Events; Administrator Events; and Specialist, Events) and Director, 3rd Party Events (Indirectly: Manager, Community Fundraising; Officer, Stewardship and Events; Senior Officer, KIN; Officer, Events; and Officer, Events, QC) RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH: STRATEGIC PLANNING (25%) Develop and implement a strategic and operational plan to strengthen CF Canada’s $6M event portfolio, prioritizing high-performing and innovative activations. Apply data-driven insights to improve donor and participant retention, enhance efficiency, and increase ROI across all events. Collaborate across departments to integrate event strategies with philanthropy, corporate partnerships, marketing, and volunteer engagement and support organization-wide fundraising objectives. Partner with the Director, Quebec, to ensure inclusion and alignment of Quebec-based initiatives. Evaluate event performance against key metrics and continuously refine systems, tools, and processes with data and technology teams. Partner with individual giving, corporate, and community engagement teams to identify and maximize new fundraising and partnership opportunities. Explore new opportunities—such as digital fundraising, livestreamed experiences, and community-led initiatives—to expand reach, impact and revenue. EVENT MANAGEMENT & EXECUTION (25%) Oversee the planning and execution of all national, signature, community, and peer-to-peer events (e.g., the Walk), ensuring excellence and consistency in delivery. LEADERSHIP & TEAM MANAGEMENT (20%) Lead, mentor, and support a high-performing national team to deliver outstanding fundraising and event outcomes. Foster collaboration across fundraising and community engagement teams to achieve shared goals and consistent donor experiences. Set clear expectations, provide coaching and feedback, and manage performance effectively. Champion professional development through training sessions, regional workshops, and an annual national meeting. Partner with marketing and communications to ensure strong promotion, storytelling, and stewardship across all channels. FINANCIAL & TECHNOLOGICAL OVERSIGHT (20%) Develop and manage the annual fundraising and events budget with the Chief Development Officer. Monitor and report on revenue and expenses to ensure financial targets are met and resources are optimized. Partner with the Integrated Data, System & Technology team to ensure the right technology solutions are in place to support an efficient, scalable events portfolio. WHAT YOU BRING: The ideal candidate is an innovative, strategic, and grounded leader with 8+ years of progressive fundraising and event management experience within the non-profit sector, including at least five years leading high-performing national teams. They have a proven record of driving event-based fundraising growth and bring creativity and discipline in equal measure—able to develop bold new ideas while maintaining a strong focus on execution, impact, and return on investment. A confident yet humble professional, this individual demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and presence when representing their team within the broader organization. They are both collaborative and assertive—an articulate communicator who advocates effectively while remaining aligned with organizational priorities. They have successfully managed large-scale fundraising programs, complex budgets, and multi-stakeholder events. And are adept at integrating events with other fundraising streams, including corporate partnerships, annual giving, and major gifts. A strategic thinker with strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills, they use data and insight to inform decisions and continuously improve results. As a people leader, they are skilled in coaching, motivating, and developing teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and shared purpose. Technologically fluent, they are proficient in Microsoft Office and fundraising software, with experience using Raiser’s Edge and CrowdChange are considered assets. Experience with livestream fundraising and digital event engagement is an advantage, and bilingualism (English/French) is preferred. This role operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires excellent time management, sound judgment, and the ability to balance multiple priorities under pressure. They are proactive, trustworthy, and operate with independence and accountability. Comfortable with constructive feedback and open dialogue, they thrive in a culture of transparency and mutual respect. A post-secondary education in Fundraising, Event Management, or a related field is preferred.
