This role is responsible for developing and executing labour relations strategies that foster strong union partnerships, support operational effectiveness, and align with THP’s People Blueprint and organizational values. Reporting to the Chief People Officer and SVP, Talent, the Director will lead a team of labour relations professionals and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the organization. A key focus of this role is to support leaders across THP in building the knowledge, confidence, and capability to fulfill commitments under collective agreements, while fostering respectful and constructive relationships with union partners. Key Responsibilities Strategic Labour Relations Leadership Lead the development and implementation of a proactive labour relations strategy that supports THP’s mission, values, and operational goals. Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with union partners to enable collaborative problem-solving and shared accountability. Provide strategic advice to senior leaders on labour relations matters, including collective agreement interpretation, workforce planning, and organizational change. Partner with leaders across the organization to build capacity and confidence in managing within a unionized environment, ensuring commitments under collective agreements are understood and upheld. Lead collective bargaining processes, including mandate development, negotiations, and implementation of agreements across multiple bargaining units. Oversee grievance and arbitration processes, ensuring timely and effective resolution that aligns with THP’s values and legal obligations. Support leaders in managing complex employee relations issues with a focus on fairness, consistency, and compliance. Labour Relations Enablement Monitor trends in healthcare labour relations and employment law to inform strategy and mitigate risk. Collaborate with People Services and operational leaders to ensure alignment between labour relations practices and clinical operations. Develop and deliver training for leaders on collective agreement administration, labour legislation, and effective union-management relations. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all relevant labour legislation, including but not limited to, the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, and Employment Standards Act. Support the development of policies and procedures that reflect best practices in labour relations and uphold THP’s commitment to equity and inclusion. Qualifications Post-Secondary education in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Law, or a related field; Master’s degree or LLB considered an asset. Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in labour relations, preferably in a unionized healthcare or public sector environment. Demonstrated success in leading collective bargaining, grievance resolution, and union engagement. Deep knowledge of Ontario labour legislation and collective agreement administration. Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders and union stakeholders. Experience navigating complex organizational change in a unionized setting is an asset.
