At BCRTC, we are growing, modernizing, and preparing for the next generation of SkyTrain service. As our next Maintenance Director, Railway Infrastructure, you will guide the a teams of over 250 dedicated staff, be responsible for a $40M operation budget, and support works occurring 24/7 across the region that keep our system safe and reliable, ensuring excellent service each and every day, while preparing and growing the teams and business to deliver on, and operate, the largest expansion in SkyTrain’s history. As a valued member of our leadership team and a senior strategic partner to the enterprise, here are some of the exciting performance outcomes you will deliver. Using your strong abilities in strategic leadership, communication, and relationship building, you will lead the Track and Infrastructure Maintenance teams to deliver safe, reliable, high‑performance maintenance operations that support a 24/7 rapid transit system relied on by the public. You are able to develop and elevate leadership capability across a large, diverse, and highly technical workforce as you lead a cultural shift, strengthen expectations, coach and recruit managers through organizational renewal, and build confidence during a period of significant change. You are a forward‑thinking operations and infrastructure leader who excels in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments and will champion major infrastructure renewal, modernization, and expansion projects to ensure they are delivered safely, effectively, and aligned with BCRTC’s long‑term system needs. You bring strong long‑range planning and analytical decision‑making skills, and will shape multi‑year asset strategies, lifecycle plans, and maintenance programs that support growth, enhance system resilience, and prepare the SkyTrain network for its next phase of evolution. What You Bring The requirements for this job would be acquired through a degree in engineering, planning or a related discipline, and 10 years of related experience in commuter or passenger rail maintenance management. You also have extensive leadership experience in a 24/7 operational or maintenance environment such as transit, aviation, utilities, ports, energy, or heavy industry, where safety, reliability, and people leadership are central to success. Experience leading in a unionized environment and supporting teams through significant organizational change is a valuable asset. Other Requirements Expert knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques of engineering, design, civil construction, and land development as it pertains to fixed asset infrastructure management, development, and maintenance. Advanced knowledge of emergency planning & business resiliency/continuity practices. Advanced knowledge of financial forecasting, modelling, financial analysis, lifecycle costing, business case development and all related reporting. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to provide expert advice to senior leaders, direct others, negotiate, and resolve complex issues with key stakeholders inside and outside of the organization. Demonstrated general and change management leadership skills are required. Advanced planning, project management, organizational and time management skills to develop strategic and tactical plans, oversee development of lifecycle schedules, and act as lead on major capital projects. Advanced problem‑solving and decision‑making skills. Advanced analytical skills to direct the assessment of infrastructure requirements, interpret results, and identify critical needs and potential exposures. Advanced leadership, development and team building skills to manage a large group of management, exempt and union staff. Sound knowledge of relevant standards, legislation, acts and regulatory requirements, knowledge specific to the rail industry would be an asset. Due to the nature of the 24/7 services, we provide, there may be times where late or extra hours as required. Other Information Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the sele ction process. Work Designation Resident This position works predominately on-site. Rate of Pay Salary: $146,000 - $219,000 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity). The Total Compensation Package includes Extended Health, Dental, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan.
