Summer Learning Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator
We are seeking Summer Learning Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator to assist educators s in delivering the Face-to-Face Summer Explorer's Grade 7-12 Camps in the following regions for a two-week contract between July 28th and August 1st, 2025:
- Manitouwadge
- Marathon
- Schreiber/Terrace Bay
- Nipigon/Red Rock/Dorion
- Geraldton/Longlac
Program Overview
Facilitators will work as part of a collaborative team to provide support during immersive sessions that combine mental health education and land-based learning. This program helps students develop resilience, build positive peer relationships, and connect with nature.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support
- Assist teachers and mental health facilitators in delivering program activities.
- Help guide small groups of students through discussions, hands-on activities, and outdoor experiences such as nature walks and team-building exercises.
- Support student engagement and participation during both outdoor and mental health-focused learning sessions.
- Provide additional supervision and support during program activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
Mental Health Support
- Provide learning opportunities on topics like stress management, self-care, and reducing mental health stigma.
- Offer informal check-ins and active listening to address youth concerns.
- Recognize and respond to mental health challenges, referring students to additional support when needed.
Student Support
- Offer informal check-ins and support to help students express concerns and build coping strategies.
- Reinforce positive behavior, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Monitor and respond to student needs, seeking additional support from educators or facilitators as required.
Organization & Safety
- Assist with the preparation and organization of program materials and activities.
- Ensure all outdoor activities follow safety protocols and guidelines, including OPHEA standards.
- Maintain a focus on student safety and well-being, reporting any concerns to program staff.
- Support emergency response procedures, including first aid and CPR, if trained.
Key Qualifications
- Experience working with children and youth in educational, recreational, or support roles (e.g., Child Social Worker, Youth Worker, or Community Support Worker).
- Knowledge of youth mental health, emotional well-being, or outdoor learning is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide physical support for outdoor activities, including frequent walking and standing.
- Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
