Managing Consultant (Transmission) – Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc. Pay Range Base pay range: $126,000 – $174,000 per year. Actual pay will be based on skills and experience. Our Managing Consultants lead project work to drive creative solutions to complex energy issues. For this role, you should have subject‑matter depth in electric transmission (e.g., ISO/RTO planning, interconnection and deliverability concepts, corridor/ROW, permitting basics, capital planning) and management‑consulting skills (structuring ambiguous problems, choosing paths, coaching teams, managing risks, and delivering results). Practice Area This position is based in the Asset Valuation, Markets and Transmission practice area. About The Role The Managing Consultant (Transmission) will lead strategic engagements on key transmission issues for utility, developer, investor, and system operator clients. Responsibilities include: structuring problems with internal experts, defining and checking analytical tasks, owning day‑to‑day client leadership, coordinating cross‑functional teams, and focusing on transmission opportunity development, business‑case analysis, portfolio prioritization, regulatory strategy, KPI tracking, partnership strategy, and governance. Work Environment We have a hybrid and flexible work environment. Employees are encouraged to work from the office 2–3 days per week and can work remotely as needed. Extended hours and virtual meetings are common. Responsibilities Lead the delivery of customer work through modeling, presentations, writing, and report preparation. Conduct independent research, making reasonable assumptions with incomplete data. Fulfill end‑to‑end project obligations. Deliver presentations to customers and respond to questions. Develop proficiency with flagship modeling tools, gather data, and vet results. Oversee or assist in managing existing tools and implement major tool revisions. Apply QA/QC best practices. Lead proposal writing for small/medium projects. Translate research results into clear visual representations. Create or edit spreadsheets to be client‑ready, including developing customer‑solutions tools. Track performance of own work against established plans and communicate with the Director or Manager. Track team performance against plans and communicate with team members. Capture project learnings and produce repeatable products for future use. Assist with internal initiatives as needed. Requirements Master’s degree or PhD in engineering, economics, computer science, public policy, or related field. 5–8 years of experience in an energy‑related field with a utility, focusing on the power electric sector. Prior experience or expertise in electric transmission development or planning (e.g., interconnection, corridor/ROW, permitting, capital planning, regulation). Extensive project management experience leading collaborative efforts. Strong writing and presentation skills. Experience working directly with stakeholders or customers. Clear communication skills. Successful leadership of ideas, people, and projects. High fluency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; quantitative modeling or programming experience. Desire to work in a dynamic office environment. Past experience with utilities on electric transmission or distribution, corporate strategy, or regulatory strategy. Experience with transmission modeling platforms (PLEXOS, Gridview, PROMOD, PSSE, TARA). Extensive experience coordinating with customers regularly. Belief that achieving a low‑carbon transition is essential. Enjoyment of translating technical concepts to broader audiences. Proactive ownership of work, seeking answers and creative solutions.
