Join to apply for the Associate Director, National Accounts role at BMO Role Overview As an Associate Director, National Accounts, you will work with automotive dealership groups, daily car rental/leasing companies, and truck dealerships (EBITDA of $25 million or higher in certain cases) that have sophisticated financial needs, including cashflow-based financing for acquisitions, dividend/shareholder loans, real‑estate/construction financing, multi‑lender syndications, and alternative debt capital structures (e.g., high yield and sub‑debt). Primary accountability will be to support the monitoring of select portfolios in our group and ensuring operation in good standing, while performing financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and credit writing to support high‑quality credit/loan submissions for new and existing clients. You will work closely with select Managing Directors within National Accounts in a fast‑paced environment, supporting growth by being involved with pitches for new financing opportunities with prospects and existing clients and growing share of wallet. Together with the team, you will maintain an exceptional client service environment and experience to continually achieve industry‑leading NPS scores for client satisfaction. This is an important role that will report directly to the Vice President of National Accounts. The candidate must be self‑motivated, well‑organized, with strong expertise in risk assessment, financial analysis, and portfolio management. The candidate must also possess excellent financial analysis and modeling skills, able to provide clear and concise presentations of significant information. Key Responsibilities Portfolio Management Provide accurate and detailed financial analysis and risk assessment of new and existing customers, and offer credit/finance structuring expertise regarding key credit terms such as capital structure, financial covenants, amortization periods, and financial statement presentation of borrower/credit group. Collaborate with clients in developing financial models and analytical tools to evaluate capital and financing structure; lead working sessions with clients and internal stakeholders to obtain buy‑in for finalizing models (e.g., new deal or credit increase opportunities, annual reviews, restructurings). Prepare detailed written analysis of credit requests, new business, and annual reviews through credit/loan submissions and credit committee memos, identifying relevant credit risks and mitigating factors. Perform ongoing monitoring and management of assigned portfolio of accounts, including financial statement reporting, financial covenant reporting and performance, borrowing base maintenance, and timely completion of annual reviews. Relationship Management & Business Development Coordinate the preparation and delivery of customized lending proposals and pitches to prospective and existing clients. Consult regularly with internal stakeholders (Managing Directors, Credit Risk Management, Cash Management, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Loan Operations) and external stakeholders (prospects/clients and their advisors, accountants, lawyers) as necessary in completing credit‑related requests. Ensure a high‑quality client experience, building long‑term relationships and acting as a trusted advisor to all stakeholders. Assist in negotiating terms and conditions, loan documentation and deal closing via in‑person, phone and e‑mail interaction. Provide thought leadership through published articles, social media posts, and staying abreast of automotive industry trends to deepen expertise and build market eminence. Internal Collaboration Manage the workflow of bank‑provided supporting resources to efficiently complete transitional tasks within tight timelines (e.g., financial spreading, covenant reporting). Help determine deal team priorities, key account plans, and best execution sequences. Work with other team members and deal teams across Canada to support a “one team” approach to achieve business targets. Partner with internal stakeholders for accurate, detailed client information and communicate portfolio trends to Senior Management. Share thought leadership, best practices, and industry knowledge within the team and business unit. Accept additional responsibilities as needed. Qualifications For Success Undergraduate/Graduate degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or economics/commerce. Typically at least 4‑5 years of relevant accounting, financial/credit analysis, business/commercial banking, and/or corporate finance experience. Automotive experience is not required. Holding a professional designation (CPA/CFA/CBV) is an asset. Strong understanding of financial, capital structuring, and credit analysis. Excellent financial modeling skills. Superior presentation and PowerPoint skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to learn quickly, be proactive, and manage priorities. Collaboration and team skills.
