Job Summary Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Patient Care Services, the Director of Access and Patient Flow is a strategic leader responsible for optimizing patient movement across all acute care sites. This role ensures timely access to care, efficient bed utilization, and seamless coordination across departments. The Director drives system-wide initiatives aligned with THP’s strategic goals—population health, equity, patient experience, team experience and value—and leads change management for patient flow processes. Key Responsibilities Lead and champion system-wide strategies to improve capacity, patient flow and access, supporting THP’s vision for “a new kind of health care for a healthier community.” Oversee Bed Allocation, Patient Flow Team, Process and System Integration Team and Clinical Operations Managers. Collaborate with clinical, enabling, administrative, and IT teams to reduce bottlenecks and optimize capacity. Use data analytics (e.g., Epic dashboards, patient experience surveys) to monitor performance and implement improvements. Mentor and develop managers and coordinators within the flow team, fostering a culture of compassion, excellence, and courage. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and internal policies. Manage 24/7 flow operations, including escalation meetings and standard work for patient flow and bed allocation teams. Optimize use of conventional and unconventional spaces, surge capacity, and cross-site transfers. Support organization-wide patient flow change initiatives and process improvement. Budget accountability and resource management. Actively participate in committees to promote collaboration and coordination of services with all stakeholders and partners. Key contact with Mississauga Health and Ontario Health for capacity related matters Ensure engagement of patients in development, implementation, and evaluation of flow/capacity/operations initiatives. Key resources in the development of a systems operations Centre. Qualifications Regulated Health Professional in Ontario. Baccalaureate degree required; Master’s degree preferred (e.g., Health Administration, Leadership, Quality). 5+ years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting. Advanced working knowledge of Epic and ability to interpret data and apply analytics. Strong knowledge of the application of artificial intelligence to business problems. Proven success in managing change, healthcare improvement, and transforming healthcare culture. Effective team building, relationship building, and critical thinking skills. Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, problem solving, negotiation, conflict resolution, collaboration, and decision-making skills.
