Hamilton, Canada McMaster University Full time

Dr. Hong Han's Lab is part of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) and the Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research (CDCR) at McMaster University. Dr. Han is a Canada Research Chair, Tier 2 in Cancer System Biology, and our team strives to create a collaborative, supportive, and stimulating environment for multi-disciplinary research. The Han Lab works at the interface of cancer biology, RNA and multilayer gene regulation, and high-throughput technologies. We have pioneered the development and application of several state-of-the-art technological platforms for large-scale genetic/drug screening and ultra-high-throughput single-cell profiling. Leveraging and integrating the power of these systematic experimental and bioinformatic approaches, together with in vitro, in vivo, and patient cohort sample studies, we discover multilayer regulatory mechanisms underlying disease progression and RNA-multimodal therapeutics for treatment-resistant cancer. We are recruiting for one to two motivated postdoc scholars, who will, in consultation with the Principal Investigator, lab researchers, academic, clinical, and industrial collaborators, design and apply innovative experimental and computational methodologies as well as in vitro and in vivo models to drive high-throughput discovery of cancer mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapeutics, especially for treatment-resistant cancers. Collaborating with biologists and clinicians in related fields, they will lead the generation and analysis of multi-omics data, including single-cell multi-omics characterization, spatial transcriptomics/proteomics profiling, and functional genomics, in the context of both basic and translational cancer research. Required Qualifications PhD in the field of cancer biology/bioinformatics/immunology, systems biology, functional genomics, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, computational biology or related field with two years (min) of relevant experience A high degree of independence and motivation, along with a willingness to work in a team, given the project's cooperative nature Strong communication (oral and written), collaboration, project management, and mentoring skills Strong background and skills in single-cell multi-omics, bioinformatics, functional genomics, advanced cancer models, and/or programming robotic equipment Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications Additional assets (but not required) Demonstrated ability to learn new high-throughput techniques and train others is desired Excellent milestone and time management skills Experience with the integration of multi-omics data and clinical information is considered an asset Background in RNA omics and alternative splicing is considered an asset Familiarity with programming languages, high-performance computing environments, and machine and statistical learning is considered an asset This position will be held at McMaster University, recognized as one of Canada’s most research-intensive universities. In our teaching, research, and scholarship, we are committed to creativity, innovation, and excellence. We value integrity, quality, inclusiveness, and teamwork in everything we do. We inspire critical thinking, personal growth, and a passion for lifelong learning. We serve the social, cultural, and economic needs of our community and our society. This funded postdoc position offers a unique interdisciplinary opportunity to develop and leverage integrated, state-of-the-art multi-omics approaches and cancer models to systematically discover cancer mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets of hard-to-treat cancers, leading to future precision medicine. The target salary range will be $48,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Benefits will be provided. The appointment may be renewable subject to the availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Successful applicants who secure external fellowships will receive a generous top-up.
