St. Michaels University School’s External Programs Department offers an array of educational enrichment programs for all students. During holiday periods (winter, spring, summer breaks), the programs provide a learning experience for students aged 5-16 that emphasize skill development, cooperation, participation, and fun. The Position: Reporting to the After School Care (ASC) and Camps Coordinator, the Art Camp Leader will play a key role in delivering creative and engaging experiences for campers. This role is responsible for creating a safe, positive and inspiring environment through thoughtful and developmentally appropriate art programming. The scope of the position includes planning and teaching art activities for campers aged 5 to 14. The Art Camp Leader will collaborate with other camp leaders, support a smooth daily schedule, and communicate with parents when required. Art Programs: Provide hands on art instruction for campers through drawing, painting, mixed media, sculptural projects, and creative craft-based activities. Adapt lessons to different ages and skill levels. Support an environment where campers explore creativity and take pride in their work. Work Schedule February 19, 2026: Orientation February 20 to August 27, 2026: Casual hours as needed to prepare for camp. Monday to Friday, June 29 to August 28, 2026: 8:30am to 4:30pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Responsibilities Ensure a safe, fun and encouraging environment for all campers during art activities. Prepare and deliver daily art projects that are engaging, creative and age appropriate. Develop weekly art plans that fit within an assigned budget and meet camp program goals. Communicate with camp leaders about daily projects, materials and set up. Provide feedback, support and direction to campers of varying abilities. Maintain art spaces including set up, clean up, organization of supplies and safe tool use. Collaborate with Camp Leaders to integrate art activities with other camp programming. Build positive relationships with campers by showing patience, encouragement and interest in their ideas. Provide clear and friendly communication with parents and caregivers when sharing camper successes or answering questions. Qualifications Some post-secondary education in Fine Arts, or Art Education Experience teaching or leading art based programs for school aged children. Strong background in visual arts with confidence across a range of media. Experience working in camps, classrooms or community art settings is an asset. Experience supervising or leading small groups is considered an asset. Experience supervising or team leading is considered an asset Ability to communicate effectively with parents, campers, and other leaders. Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment and work as a positive and collaborative team member. Applicants must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
