Interim Senior Director of Finance
Reports to: CEO
Duration: 12 months+ (Possible Permanent)
Location: North York, ON (in-office)
Our client, a growing, Canadian consumer goods manufacturer, is urgently seeking an Interim Senior Director of Finance to help plan the future state of the finance function while immediately implementing process efficiencies. The interim leader will simultaneously be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and financial strategy of the company, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing leadership and guidance to the finance team. This role will entail close collaboration with the CEO and other senior cross-functional executives to support the company's growth objectives and resolve any financial issues.
Key Accountabilities:
- Driving efficiency/cost optimization projects across the business.
- Leading and mentoring the finance team, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development; Create a culture of learning and development by providing feedback, coaching, and mentoring to others.
- Providing strategic financial advice and insights to the CEO and other senior leaders on business opportunities, challenges, and decisions.
- Managing the company's capital structure, debt financing, and working capital, and optimizing the use of financial resources.
- Manage cash flow and liquidity of the company, and its ability to meet its short-term and long-term financial obligations and goals.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, such as investors, lenders, auditors, regulators, and vendors.
- Evaluating and implementing financial systems and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting and analysis.
- Participating and facilitating the budgeting and strategic planning processes and developing and implementing financial policies and procedures that align with the company's vision and goals.
- Preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and variance analysis.
- Leading product costing and evaluation for both new and existing products.
- Suggesting and implementing appropriate controls and policies that support the purpose of the role and the Company.
- Create and sustain comprehensive KPI dashboards to ensure daily, weekly, monthly performance management are fully aligned to forecast models and strategic plans.
- Monthly P&L analysis and reporting to the management team.
- Cash and foreign exchange management.
- Establishing and maintaining effective internal controls and risk management systems to safeguard the company's assets and ensure compliance with tax, legal, and audit requirements.
- Staying abreast of the latest trends and developments in the industry’s manufacturing and retail sales and identifying and mitigating any potential financial risks or opportunities.
- Report on the return on investment (ROI) and return on equity (ROE) of the company, and how well it is using its capital and assets to generate value for its shareholders and stakeholders.
- Track operating margin and net profit margin of the company, and how efficiently and effectively it is managing its costs and expenses while maximizing its revenue and income.
- Monitor the debt-to-equity ratio and interest coverage ratio of the company, and how leveraged and risky it is in terms of its borrowing and financing decisions.
- The budget variance and forecast accuracy of the company, and how well it is planning and controlling its financial resources and performance: Sales & Revenue, Contribution Margin, Operating Income and recommend improvements along the process.
- Proactive in anticipating the challenges / risks related to business environment and offering solutions for remedies.
Education and Experience:
- Director level and above experience leading a finance function within the manufacturing sector.
- Strong technical accounting skills; CPA designation.
- Commercial acumen and costing experience to support sales function with new business and managing large long term customer relationships.
- Advanced financial modeling and forecasting capability.
- Facility with Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with payroll and technical/legal aspects of HR compliance and administration.
- Experience leading ERP conversion or major system upgrades is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience that emphasizes critical thinking, collaborative decision making and a high degree of coordination between functions.
- Ability to develop and communicate a clear and compelling vision of the future and aligns resources and actions to achieve it.
