RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER Job Title: Director of Construction Reports to: CEO Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Hastings Income Band: $72,000 to $92,000 Benefits: Prescription Medication & Dental Job Summary The Director of Construction (DoC) reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings (HFH PEH). The DoC’s role is to oversee all build processes from design to permits and inspections. These tasks will include all pre‑build planning, re‑zoning, as well as post‑build documentation and warranty / deficiencies work. They manage the daily details for projects such as preparing budgets, build schedules, purchase orders, on‑site safety and training, and lead build volunteers and professional trades in construction activities. This role provides leadership to external contractors and trades while maintaining an active, visible presence on construction sites. They ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to required quality standards while upholding the organization’s values and regulatory obligations. The DoC will work with the CEO to source and execute land deals. Attributes Intrinsic integrity, leadership, clear communications, optimism, and effective inter‑personal relationships. Key Responsibilities Project Planning and Management Ensure construction is completed in accordance with municipal building codes, by‑laws, municipal, provincial, and federal statutory requirements and HFH PEH’s home building standards. During the non‑build season, prepare build manuals and guidelines, and create a detailed work‑back schedule for upcoming builds. Coordinate Gift‑in‑Kind material acquisition through Habitat Canada channels, as well as local suppliers. Partner with Event & Volunteer Coordinator to arrange sponsorship and volunteers for corporate Build Days. Secure material and service quotes; ensure materials and services provided by suppliers are ordered and available on‑site in accordance with the construction schedule and effectively resolve any discrepancies. Review all warranty and Tarion related materials to ensure that all necessary warranty work is completed. Manage and coordinate the team of Professional Consultants during project planning, development, and design stages to ensure compliance with HFH PEH’s interests and vision. Work with Homeownership Manager to ensure that future homeowners complete all program requirements re: construction of their homes, home maintenance education modules, and post‑occupancy deficiencies. Construction Coordination and Supervision Execute construction projects with volunteer support, and in partnership with local organizations when arranged. Actively lead and participate in the onsite building of homes using sub‑trades where appropriate. Create budget estimates, monitor construction progress against the established schedules, prepare reports and recovery mitigation plans. Safely operate HFH PEH Build Response vehicle (de‑commissioned ambulance), and ensure items are safely stored within the vehicle. Ensure inspections are conducted pursuant to municipal, provincial, and federal requirements. Provide progress reports to the CEO on a weekly basis. Material Management Supervise the safeguarding and maintenance of a comprehensive inventory of HFH PEH’s construction tools, supplies and equipment, monitor compliance of power tools with safety regulations. Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and repaired as required. Oversee site preparation, assignment of specific tasks to Crew Leads and Volunteers, ensure that an adequate supply of necessary tools, safety equipment and materials are arranged to be on‑site daily, and supervise performance and clean‑up. Ensure all on‑site materials, supplies, tools, and equipment are adequately supervised and stored in a safe and secure manner. With the agreement of the CEO, update job site requirements as needed. Employee Management Supervise, coordinate, and provide direction in accordance with safety standards to staff and volunteers on build sites. Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems. Support employees in an effort to upgrade existing skills and ensure OH&S training requirements are kept up to date. Understand and consistently demonstrate HFHPEH's standards and code of conduct. Perform other duties as required. Job Qualifications Education A university degree or diploma in construction management, civil engineering, or a similar field of study. Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in Construction Project Management and home building. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Relevant trade certification, construction management designation or equivalent experience is an asset. Experience managing and training construction site staff, volunteers, and skilled trades. Ability to manage multiple build site locations, construction build scheduling, and material procurement needs. Strong technical understanding of construction methods, and site cost control. Excellent multi‑tasking and problem‑solving skills with a high‑level attention to detail. Clear written and oral communication skills, and effective relationship management with staff, volunteers, and construction suppliers. Experience working with city officials for planning, by‑laws, zoning, and permit processes. Knowledge of Home Construction Regulatory Association (HCRA) regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of Tarion Warranty regulations and guidelines. Maintains up‑to‑date training and qualifications related to Health & Safety requirements. Experience utilizing site construction software. Clear criminal record check. Experience driving a truck. Valid driver's license. Schedule Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. 37.5 hours per week commitment. Occasional evening or weekend work required.
