We are hiring an Engineering Manager for the MAAS team. MAAS (“Metal as a Service”) provides a cloud‑style on‑demand API for physical server provisioning, network configuration, and storage. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality software and leading a high‑performance team with deep familiarity in Linux on physical servers, Linux storage, and data‑center networking. The MAAS team develops the hyperscale provisioning technology, written in Python and Go, spanning hardware detection, provisioning, as well as web, API, and CLI interfaces. Engineers work across all layers of the stack and anticipate systemic consequences of design choices. Key Responsibilities Lead a distributed team of engineers organized by time zone (Americas, EMEA, etc.) Coach, mentor, provide feedback, and facilitate career planning for team members Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders Participate in code and architectural review. Engage with broader Canonical teams, the open‑source community, and partners. Travel to internal and external global events for 4–6 weeks per year. Desired Qualifications Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field. Exceptional academic and professional track record. Proven experience delivering software with Python, Go, or similar languages. Experience with Linux system administration (Debian or Ubuntu preferred). Familiarity with modern Linux cloud technologies: networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes. Strong technical aptitude for distributed systems. Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills. Experience with agile software development methodologies. Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members. Result‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments. Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long. Nice‑to‑Have Skills Experience with TypeScript and modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Svelte, or Vue). Experience in data‑center infrastructure management and design.
