Job Profile Recreation Technician Opportunities Are you interested in working in a fun, active, and supportive environment? The Community Services Department is hiring Recreation Technicians for a variety of programs across Winnipeg. As The Recreation Technician, Your Duties Will Include Help enrich the recreational experiences for participants related to an assigned position. Collaborate to create a positive atmosphere of inclusion for all participants related to an assigned position. Creatively develop daily activity plans for children, youth or young adults related to an assigned position. Supervise participants, volunteers and equipment/facilities related to an assigned position. Work as part of a dynamic workforce, while gaining valuable work experience. Education And Qualifications A Grade 10 education. Grade 12 and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience would be an asset. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to work individually and as part of a team, with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Proven recreational programming, leadership and supervisory skills would be an asset. Applicants educated outside of Canada must have education comparable to minimum Canadian qualifications. Foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service ( at application. Conditions Of Employment A Police Records Check, with Vulnerable Sector Check, satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate(s), at their expense. To obtain a Police Records Check, please visit Valid Emergency First Aid (or higher) and a CPR Level C (or equivalent). Certificates must be valid until September 20, 2026 and obtained within the previous 12 months. CPR C must be renewed annually from the date of issue. Accepted training providers: Red Cross – Emergency First Aid & CPR C; St. John Ambulance – Basic/Emergency First Aid & CPR C. Lifesaving Society First Aid is not accepted. Positions The positions available for recruitment are outlined below. Final placement will be based on your qualifications and current vacancies. Wading Pool Attendant – Recreation Technician B: Must be 16 years or older. Responsibilities include supervising and operating outdoor wading pools for children 12 and under; ensuring safety and basic water supervision. Youth Leader – Recreation Technician C: Work with youth ages 13–18 in programs such as arts, crafts, sports, games; plan and lead activities; shifts mainly afternoons and evenings. Preschool Leader (L’il Critters & Cartown) – Recreation Technician B or C: Lead activities for children ages 3–7; Cartown offered in English and French. Children’s Leader (Free Play & What’s Up) – Recreation Technician A, B or C: Lead programs for children ages 6–12; promote physical activity and community learning; sites across Winnipeg. Children's/Youth Fishing Leader – Recreation Technician C: Plan activities for children 6–12 and youth 10–17; fishing experience is an asset but training is provided. HIGH FIVE trained. Building Supervisor & Facility Monitor (Part Time) – Recreation Technician B or C: Monitor facilities and weight rooms; may handle registrations and cash; hours vary; lift up to 45 pounds. Equipment Loans & Equipment Delivery – Recreation Technician C: Prepare, pack, deliver equipment; requires Class 5 Driver’s License, steel-toed boots, ability to lift 45+ pounds; based at 565 Watt Street; Monday–Friday with some weekend work.
