Job Title Applications Engineering Specialist Reports To Director, SIS Technical Operations Based In Ottawa, ON Term Full Time About the role The Nanometrics Seismic Instruments and Systems division is looking for an Applications Engineering Specialist within our Solutions Engineering team. The ideal candidate should have experience in integrating, testing, and releasing remote monitoring or low‑voltage IoT solutions in the context of mission‑critical deployments. You will be tasked with driving the design, deployment and optimization of Nanometrics’ mission‑critical systems as well as designing, implementing and supporting bespoke station designs for customer specific needs. You will be expected to become an expert in the integration and use of our systems in the creation of complete customer solutions. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute your specialized electronics and communications systems expertise to solve difficult problems alongside our mechanical and software specialists. Supporting the Instruments and Systems Sales Team, this role will have direct interaction with customers in establishment of customer solutions. The working environment will be a mix between office work, lab work, and international working environments. This role will include travel as needed (approximately 15%). Responsibilities Integrate Nanometrics’ product portfolio into complete customer solutions, including hardware and software platforms Translate complex customer requirements into both off‑the‑shelf and bespoke technical solutions. Evaluate and integrate third‑party and open source data processing and automation modules Act as technical customer liaison in both pre‑sale and post‑sale support capacities providing expert technical guidance and support Work with management to clarify requirements and prioritize development features Collaborate with the Sales team in driving continuous improvement to customer solutions and project design Support the development of Nanometrics on‑premise data centre infrastructure in support of external client projects and internal research projects Key Competencies Ability to effectively interpret and communicate requirements Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to interact with internal and external clients Effective communication of operational challenges to help drive processes and design evolution Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment Ability to understand complex customer problems and generate appropriate solutions Keen attention to detail Desire and curiosity to develop an understanding of the business, our science, and commercial drivers Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or related field 3‑5 years of experience in electrical or systems engineering, integration, design or product development Experience in structured requirements development and validation Working knowledge on the fundamentals of systems integration Working knowledge of low power and remote power systems Working knowledge of communications systems Programming and analysis experience with various languages, including Python Ability to travel internationally Assets Experience in Seismology, Geophysics or related field Experience with customer procedure development Experience with data analysis and presentation Experience with integration of sensor systems Experience with remote power systems including solar Experience with embedded controller integration Experience with the design and use of communication and telemetry systems Knowledge of GPS systems Why Nanometrics?
