Job Summary The SSOC‑Investigative Specialist works in a Security Surveillance Operations Center requiring 24/7 staffing. This position proactively monitors, in real‑time, all surveillance cameras, motion alarms and access controls, and processes any unusual activity to provide an appropriate response. The Specialist receives information from the field and directs notifications guided by Standard Operating Procedures, using experienced judgment during time‑urgent situations to safeguard the Woodbine Entertainment Group’s security and integrity with discretion and confidentiality, ensuring company, employee and guest safety and security. Key Responsibilities Proactive monitoring of surveillance cameras to identify and assess unusual activity that puts the business, people or property at risk. Report and investigate all matters affecting the integrity of Thoroughbred and Standardbred racing at all Woodbine Entertainment Group facilities. Respond to any unusual activity using sound judgment and reporting appropriately—including further monitoring, sending a response team, escalating to management, or contacting proper authorities as deemed fit. Document and conduct impartial investigations into all offences and criminal activity on WEG property. Ensure immediate response to any alarms from motion or access control entry issues. Investigate incidents, prepare accurate investigative reports and video evidence that are defensible in any potential legal action. Attend court hearings and provide evidence or observe and report on related matters. Initiate investigations into WEG employee matters for disciplinary action and, when internal breaches of security are suspected, partner with the PX department. Receive and communicate emergency messages and make appropriate notifications. Sort and prioritize operational email/call traffic and make notifications based on established criteria. Provide support to special events, including retention program, surveillance, operational planning and risk assessments. Develop and enforce security measures to be followed, and oversee covert and electronic surveillance. Investigate and report unlawful use of broadcast signals. Identify and track crime patterns affecting WEG properties and report to management. Follow up on all investigations to ensure accurate and effective completion. Work as a team member to continuously improve operational effectiveness, improve SOPs, and deliver guest support. Coordinate and conduct all investigations into criminal activity and contravention of AGCO and WEG rules with complete confidentiality. Liaise with municipal, provincial and federal police forces, AGCO investigators, and law‑enforcement agencies. Work effectively with SSOC and security staff. Conduct duties of the Security Supervisor and monitor security guards in compiling reports showing primary investigation, as required. Provide support and emergency information to deployed personnel. Use Microsoft Office tools and Resolver CORE for analysis and communication. Motivated, able to think in stressful situations, persistent and strong work ethic. Ability to share clear and concise information to a variety of recipients using multiple systems. Log shift activity of various guards/buildings using different systems and processes. Constant mental alertness and attention to detail required while setting priorities and following up on assignments. Job Specifications Knowledge Advanced knowledge of investigation methodology and reporting with a good understanding of federal, provincial and municipal law. General knowledge of safety regulations (OHSA, WHMIS), labour standards (ESA) and organizational policies and procedures. Knowledge of physical security, building and fire equipment/monitoring systems. Knowledge and proficient use of CCTV systems. Advanced knowledge of surveillance methodology, including how to identify unusual activity and how to respond appropriately. Knowledge of installing, monitoring and maintaining covert camera systems. Proficiency in utilizing phone systems, voicemail and directories. Understanding of office procedures and department protocol. Proficient understanding of access control and alarm monitoring systems and panels. Computer aptitude of Windows, MS Office and internet. Skills Ability to develop and manage confidential informants, document all relevant case/investigation information and prepare files for court proceedings. High motivation, resourcefulness, reliability, effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to deal professionally with all levels of employees, stakeholders and the general public. Ability to work independently, take initiative and exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines. Critical thinking skills and excellent judgement under pressure. Strong guest focus. Organizational skills. Team‑player ability. Conflict resolution skills. Work well under pressure, multi‑task and adapt to changing conditions, urgent matters and emergencies. Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team to accomplish objectives. Education And Experience Post‑secondary education in a related field of law or law enforcement, security administration, investigations, surveillance, or an approved equivalent combination of education, certification/accreditation, or relevant experience. One to two years of experience. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel). Experience with associated business software (e.g., Genetec, CORE) preferred. Valid Ontario Private Investigator License or Dual License. Ability to obtain a racing AGCO license. First Aid/CPR training or certification. Working Conditions Requires wearing personal protective equipment when required. Moderate to high stress dealing with cross‑functional teams, outside suppliers, and customers. Regular interruptions, multiple demands and time pressure. Various shift work, including evening, weekends and holidays, as required. Required to work hours other than regular schedule, including shift work, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis; may be required to be on‑call and work overtime.
