JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Associate Director, Innovation, the Innovation & Commercialization Consultant is responsible for providing subject matter expertise (SME) guidance to Praxis Innovation leadership and the start-up founders & project leads participating in Praxis’ SCI Innovation Programs (SCI Incubate, SCI Accelerate, SCI Adopt). The consultant will also help expand and strengthen Praxis’ network of commercialization mentors to coach SCI-related technologies based on their specific needs, evaluate technologies, and support the leadership team in exploring business development opportunities for Praxis’ unique innovation platform. This consultant role may also work on other related projects as required, in pursuit of Praxis’s organizational objectives. This is a part-time (15-18 hours / week) contract consultant role until March 31, 2026. Compensation for the role operates on a sliding scale of $50-$90 CAD per hour based on level of experience and alignment with the specific needs of the position. Scope of Services Provides mentorship, coaching and subject matter expertise (SME) to entrepreneurs, innovators, and project team leads. Manages meetings with start-ups including logistics, meeting notes and report generation. Oversees SCI Innovation project plans with the aim of guiding start-up MedTech founders and entrepreneurs to integrate end-users and SMEs into their innovation culture and accelerating the commercialization of novel SCI-related innovations. Provides SME guidance across a range of topics including, but not limited to, technology management, reimbursement and regulatory strategy, business model development, fundraising and governance. Develops partnerships and relationships with industry, investors and SMEs in support of Praxis’ SCI Innovation programs and network development strategy such as recruitment of mentors, opportunities to share deal flow and partnerships. Support identification, research and recruit potential SCI-related innovations to participate in Praxis programs Provide analysis of start-ups (e.g. Due Diligence/ Decision to Invest memo) to guide decision-making on funding/supporting SCI-related technologies. Other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job. QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Sciences, or other related field. Graduate Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience highly preferred. 5+ years of executive and/or project management experience in a health technology start-up or health sciences environment. Business-to-business experience with firms and projects closely related to medical devices, clinical research & diagnostics, and/or medial therapeutics. Experience managing engagements with patient groups and/or people with lived experience engagement (i.e. focus groups) is an asset. Knowledge of product development, medical device design and MedTech commercialization strategies. Knowledge of Canadian healthcare system and understanding of SCI care pathways is an asset. Skills/Behaviours Ability to translate conceptual ideas and strategic objectives into operational requirements. Demonstrated project planning/management skills overseeing managing multiple, concurrent projects, meeting deadlines, and attention to detail required. Ability to coach and provide guidance to entrepreneurs, founders and technical project leads in the development and deployment of effective commercialization strategies. Ability to inspire, communicate, and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders including industry leaders, researchers, affiliated organizations, and ecosystem partners. Expertise with translating complex technical issues and conveying them clearly in technical and business formats to various audiences. Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills required. Ability to execute and drive operational efficiency Ability to work within tight timeframes; ability to self-prioritize. Positive outlook with a focus on needs identification, problem solving and experience implementing practical and shared solutions. High tolerance for ambiguity. Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and diplomacy when dealing with various stakeholders; able to effectively build relationships. An equivalent combination of education, experience and skills/behaviors will be considered.
