The Director of Business Planning and Budgets reports to the Commissioner of Finance/Treasurer and advises on all budget, long term financial planning and asset management matters related to the strategic, modern financial management and fiscal accountability of the Region, Durham Region Transit, and Durham Regional Local Housing Corporation and liaises with Durham Regional Police Services. The Director ensures initiatives are forward‑thinking and that best practices align with the Strategic Plan. Leading a team of 18 staff, this Director role has the principal responsibility of financial budgeting and forecasting for a $2.7 billion‑dollar annual budget to maintain and enhance critical service delivery needs. The reach is across the entire organization and has a significant impact upon the viability of regional operations. This, along with key studies on revenue stability and opportunities, property taxes, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and debt forecasts set the foundation for Regional fiscal responsibility. The Director takes pride in the effective utilization of the Region’s assets as well as a commitment to partnerships with fellow Directors, Commissioners and Council. The Director models and champions the Region’s values with a focus on teamwork and understanding and meeting Council, public, and stakeholder needs. With your CPA and university degree, you possess more than 10 years of senior experience gained in a complex, unionized, and publicly accountable organization. You are passionate about building strong and collaborative teams, and skilled in making public presentations. You are known as being politically astute, having high ethical standards, and for building trusting relationships.
