Director, Loss Forecasting Models — BMO The Director, Retail Loss Forecasting Models is mandated to lead transformative changes in the North American Retail Risk area, delivering innovative, high‑quality models and analytics to drive business decisions and risk management. The incumbent will manage the end‑to‑end lifecycle of retail loss forecasting models, work cross‑functionally with stakeholders, and lead a team of modelers applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques. Key Accountabilities Lead strategic initiatives and transformative changes for the North American Non‑Regulatory Risk Models area. Identify process and efficiency improvement opportunities in the end‑to‑end model lifecycle and develop action plans to execute improvements. Develop, evolve, implement, and monitor model lifecycle‑related metrics to ensure high‑quality and efficient model processes. Stay aware of developments in finance, software, and operations that may impact model development and operations. Provide thought leadership on next‑generation approaches to model life‑cycle management (e.g., open‑source, cloud‑based environments, centralized code libraries). Establish and cultivate internal stakeholder relationships with senior management and executives. Apply expertise creatively to solve complex interdependent problems. Project Management and Development Effectively lead, coordinate, and manage execution of strategic modeling initiatives. Define measures of success and project goals transparently. Communicate expectations and content clearly to contributors. Relationship and People Management Manage stakeholder relationships and serve as center of expertise for model‑related processes and risk quantification. Maintain effective communication with senior management, peers, and internal/external stakeholders. Communicate abstract concepts in simple terms. Consult with business units to translate objectives, requirements, and model design into clear communication. Attract, retain, and support career development of top talent. Improve team performance, recognize and reward performance, coach employees, and address performance issues. Qualifications At least 10 years’ experience in financial services, consulting, or fintech in senior roles. Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Operations Research, or Business). Strong project management and problem‑solving skills. Effective communication in senior‑level forums. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Influencing and negotiation skills with business units and risk teams. Experience with innovative, digital‑first approaches to model life‑cycle and analytics. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS SageMaker, Google Cloud, Azure) and Python tools (PySpark, pandas, NumPy, Jupyter). Good knowledge of financial markets and products. Broad understanding of risk management methodologies and measurement systems. Knowledge of loss forecasting and time‑series models (asset). Proven leadership/management skills. Strategic, holistic, and conceptual thinker. Broad knowledge of banking products, procedures, and processes. Ability to handle ambiguity and change. Capability to work independently and cross‑functionally. Evidence‑based argumentation and persuasive narrative skills. Blend quantitative and business judgment to solve ambiguous issues. Strong oral and written communication. Ability to meet tight deadlines. Attention to detail.
