Food Basics is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Produce Department Head to bring our produce section to life. Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day operations of the produce department. Ensure the department is well-stocked, clean, and organized; develop and implement procedures for efficient department management. Assist with merchandising, receiving, rotating, and organizing product in the backroom and cooler. Recruit, train, and supervise produce department staff; schedule employees and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts. Monitor staff performance and provide feedback or coaching as needed. Manage inventory levels and ensure adequate stock; monitor product quality and freshness, removing expired or damaged items. Place orders for produce and coordinate deliveries with suppliers. Create visually appealing displays; plan and execute seasonal promotions and ensure products are labeled with prices and information. Address customer inquiries, assist with product selection, and provide information about produce to ensure excellent customer service. Manage the department budget and control expenses; monitor sales and adjust inventory based on demand; analyze financial reports and take corrective actions as needed. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations; implement and enforce food safety and sanitation procedures; conduct regular safety inspections. Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth store operations; communicate with store management about department performance and needs; participate in store meetings and contribute to overall store strategy. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent combination of education, training and experience Minimum 2 years’ produce/supervisory experience with product knowledge, rotation, merchandising, ordering and inventory control Superior customer service, supervisory and communication skills Proven ability to remain calm under pressure Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods (4-8 hours), bend, twist, reach, and lift up to 65 pounds Must be fully available days, evenings and weekends The responsibilities and relationships assigned to this role may change as necessary to achieve Metro's business objectives.
