Burnaby, Canada Cultivated Food Labs Full time

Innovation and Product Development Food Scientist R&D Food Scientist – Innovation & Product Development Salary : $65,000 - $80,000 Based on experience. Location : Burnaby, BC Type : Full-time Company : Cultivated Food Labs About Cultivated Food Labs At Cultivated Food Labs (CFL), we’re redefining how food innovation happens. We help food brands and manufacturers bring new ideas to life — from bold concepts to market‑ready products — through technical excellence, creativity, and deep collaboration. Our Burnaby‑based innovation facility and pilot plant serve as the playground where science meets taste. We work with partners across the food industry to develop sustainable, craveable products that consumers love. If you thrive in fast‑moving environments, love solving tough formulation challenges, and want to help shape the future of food — you’ll fit right in here. The Opportunity We’re growing our close‑knit team and are looking for an independent, curious, and entrepreneurial Food Scientist who can own projects from concept to commercialization and adjust to the needs of dynamic customers. You’ll collaborate with customers, internal team members and industry advocates — and have direct impact on the products that reach the market. This is a role for someone who values autonomy, variety, and the satisfaction of seeing their work come to life, along with the responsibility to manage customer relationships. What You’ll Do This is a customer‑facing role, in which you will liaison with our customers and then lead food development projects in every aspect from concept through commercialization — including formulation, ingredient sourcing, benchtop trials, pilot‑scale and commercial‑scale production. You will be great at communicating and listening to the customer to understand how to solve their problems. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing creativity with strong project management and communication. Design and conduct experiments (including DoE, sensory testing, and shelf‑life studies). Translate client or internal innovation briefs into practical, scalable, and delicious solutions. Collaborate with operations, QA, and external manufacturing partners to ensure smooth product scale‑up. Maintain and improve internal databases, SOPs, and ingredient libraries to streamline development workflows. Contribute ideas to new categories, technologies, and flavor systems — your creativity will be a key asset. What You Bring Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related discipline. Experience: 5+ years in food product development or R&D, with hands‑on bench, pilot plant, and commercialization experience. You’re a self‑starter — capable of running projects independently, communicating clearly, and managing timelines. Strong formulation and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and a love for experimentation. Excellent project management and organization; you’re equally comfortable planning, executing, and documenting. Collaborative, adaptable, and team‑oriented — you build trust quickly and enjoy working in a small, agile team. Strong communicator who can explain technical insights in accessible language. Bonus Points Experience with plant‑based, clean‑label, or functional ingredient systems. Working knowledge of North American food regulations (Canada & US). Experience coordinating pilot plant or co‑manufacturer trials. Why You’ll Love Working Here Be part of a mission‑driven, science‑first team shaping the future of food. Your efforts and hard work will directly influence the success of the company. Lead exciting, hands‑on projects from idea to launch. Work in a state‑of‑the‑art pilot facility with a culture of innovation and collaboration. Enjoy a flexible, supportive environment that values both creativity and precision. Competitive compensation, benefits (health, dental, vision), paid time off, and genuine work‑life balance. #J-18808-Ljbffr
