Position Summary The Disability Management Consultant is a member of the People Safety team and is responsible for the proactive and expert management of WSIB, STD, and LTD claims. This position collaborates with leaders and key partners in injury and disability prevention, early intervention, and return‑to‑work support. It operates under the ‘Flex First’ remote‑hybrid working model, providing flexibility between in‑office and remote work to suit the needs of the portfolio. Responsibilities Initiate, engage, and maintain contact with injured/absent employees on a regular basis. Provide support to employees’ leaders and HR regarding claims management, disability, accommodation, and the Attendance Awareness and Support Program. Interpret and educate leaders on regulatory and compliance requirements to ensure that case management practices align with legislation, regulation, and THP policies. Develop effective and sustainable return‑to‑work plans and conduct return‑to‑work meetings. For WSIB claims, ensure compliance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, managing all elements of the claims process including forms filing, incident investigation, return‑to‑work program development, work rehabilitation program coordination, compensation awards/claims review, and objection letter preparation. Represent THP at all WSIB/WSIAT hearings and appeals where applicable. Maintain confidentiality and objectively and accurately document case history, strategy, and case management plan. Collaborate and liaise with other members of People Safety and Support teams. Collaborate with employees, leaders, unions, HR, and relevant health care professionals to implement return‑to‑work and/or modified work programs and support prevention and Healthy Workplace initiatives. In collaboration with leaders and HR business partners, monitor and adjust the progress of return‑to‑work cases to resolve emerging issues. Make referrals to appropriate resources such as EFAP provider, Occupational Health Physician, or Ergonomics Consultant as required. Act as liaison to all internal and external partners. Monitor proposed or pending medical guideline changes, WSIA legislation or WSIB policy changes and prepare THP responses or positions when warranted. Accountable for regularly gathering, maintaining, and reporting statistics regarding WSIB, STD, and LTD, and proactively identify trends to prevent reoccurrences. Effectively resolve conflict and manage a fluctuating case load. Must work at all sites. Other duties as assigned. Key Qualifications Must meet eligibility requirements to become certified with the Canadian Society of Professionals in Disability Management as a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) and/or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) within 1 year or hold CDMP or CRTWC in good standing. At least 3 years of experience in disability and WSIB claims management. Post‑secondary degree in the health sector. Demonstrated expertise in return‑to‑work planning, HOODIP administration, long‑term disability contracts, collective agreements, and attendance and accommodation programs in a large and diverse environment. Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; ability to create and monitor individualized employee modified work programs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse roles within THP and outside agencies. Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act). Analytical skills to interpret statistical data and recommend policies and procedures for WSIB claims, documentation, and appeals. Self‑confidence to provide mediation and dispute‑resolution services. Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills. Proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams). Experience with Parklane, hospital, or strong medical knowledge is preferred. Ability to work independently and in a fast‑paced team environment. Positive attendance and work record essential. Location We offer employees a flexible hybrid role (approximately 80 % remote, 20 % on‑site) under the Flex First program. The primary workspace will be remote from home, with onsite presence as needed. Employees must be available to return to the workplace with 24 hours’ notice. Remote work outside the province or country is not acceptable.
