Overview:
The Disability Management Specialist provides case management and support for the rehabilitation of ill/injured employees. The Disability Management Specialist plans, develops, promotes and evaluates the effectiveness of the disability management plans in Eastern Canada.

**Responsibilities**:
**Health and Safety**
- Demonstrates a commitment to a safe work environment.
- Understands the organization’s safety objectives and visibly supports these efforts by adhering to safety policies, taking ownership for ensuring a safe workplace and demonstrating support to organizational safety initiatives.

**Case Management**
- Single point of contact and management representative in Eastern Canada for the management of sick and disability benefit claims.
- In conjunction with the business, this role will provide case management for the rehabilitation of employees through the development, negotiation and implementation of rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, return to work plans and duty to accommodate agreements. Monitors the effectiveness of such agreements and plans.
- In partnership with the Human Resources Manager, manages drug/alcohol recovery programs for employees.
- Implements such agreements and plans to ensure both a safe and durable return to work for ECAN employees and cost effective disability management practices on behalf of Lafarge Canada Inc.
- Ensures appropriate medically supported workplace accommodations for employees with disabilities.
- Provides consultation to employees regarding available disability management services, the dispute resolution process and responsibilities in the workplace accommodation process.
- Establishes contact with employees with an extended absence, or requesting medical accommodation, and serves as the single point of contact for centralized communication and coordination of the accommodation/treatment/rehabilitation plan.
- Coordinates the appropriate participants for the development of individual return to work plans, and ensures that process and outcome are evaluated.
- Represents the Lafarge Canada Inc. in ECAN and its interests in meetings with the employee, the Union and/or third party provider, and in identified cases proceeding to a third party and/or other quasi-judicial tribunal.

**Program Management**
- Provides leadership in the ongoing development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of disability, accommodation and return to work programs.
- Remains current with workplace legislation and jurisprudence, disability guidelines and treatment protocols through research and investigation, as directed.
- Acts as the expert in Accessibility Legislation, i.e. AODA, and provides recommendations to applicable internal partners such as Talent Acquisition and Communications.
- Identifies systemic barriers to return to work and assists departments to identify suitable transition work for ill/injured employees, and/or work that meets an employee’s accommodation needs.
- Implements instructional programs and materials in such areas as return to work planning and workplace accommodation programs.
- Collects and analyzes data and prepares applicable reports and proposals.

**Record Management**
- Responsible for maintaining historical records and ensuring record keeping is accurate. Is the primary liaison to administer requirements for HR systems, processes for all aspects of disability management ensuring all transactional steps are processed in a timely fashion.

**Reporting, Analytics and Process Improvement**
- Execute and monitor all respective internal controls, ensuring efficient/effective activities that support organizational objectives, while adhering to applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Make suggestions for workflow and process improvements and work closely with internal partners (ABS, HR team, business, etc) to identify and implement processes necessary to eliminate duplication of work and reduce overall administrative burden.
- Proactively identify process inefficiencies and inconsistencies and collaborate toward an improved and more productive process that will enhance the overall employee experience. Coordinates key analytics and reporting to support business objectives and HR dashboard.
- Support the HR team with all ad-hoc reporting requests including but not limited to reports, metrics, etc.
